As mentioned, it doesn't have to be but if you want something done right......... Besides, if looking up the rules state by state is a hardship then maybe just better to pass on the oversize thing altogether.

Question...can you run 2'6 front overhang? See, this is one of those times where you really have to know your truck because odds are, no one in the office knows for sure.

I dont haul pipe, so I dont know. If you cant haul 2'6 overhang OR dont know if you can, dont take the load.

"How will I know what I can haul, Six?"

Measuring tape and turning the steering wheel. Check your clearances. Then, you will know for sure what you can do BEFORE you get pressure to commit to a load.

"Hey Six, was my company giving accurate information on the state regs?"

    Probably.

It's still a couple years away, I just don't anticipate enjoying the navigation of that many state websites. I don't look forward to tarping in the rain either, but it's still gotta be done....

All over-dimensional permit stuff is a bird's nest of confusion. Here in Manitoba, 60-foot loads are legal without permits. Just need "long load" sign on rear of trailer and flags all around. Go into Saskatchewan, now you need a single-issue permit and a "D" banner front (?) and back along with flags.

Actually I thought he meant his commanding officer at the company which is based in Colorado.

I have hauled 60' up and down the west coast without an oversize load permit. With signs, flags and lights as I described in an earlier post

This spells out my confusion perfectly. Does front overhang not matter? Is it really as simple as measure from front of trailer (ignoring front overhang) to the the farthest point of the load. Looking that number up in my atlas and if its less than or equal to that atlas number Im good?
