Dedicated run? Or bait and switch?

Well, I'm at the Dayton "flop house" tonight, watching football and waiting for orientation in the morning.

I'll let you know if *my* offer for a dedicated NYC district/regional works out.
In fairness it was offered by a FM and NOT a recruiter, so let's see if that counts for anything.

If anything, I'm just trying to get another year of "salt" on my licence (they said I needed more seasoning :biggrin_25522:) So worst case scenario, I'll be OTR for another year, or I'll go back to NYC to drive limos, and screw the CDL slog.

well the orientation people came down pretty hard on me today.
They wanted to know if I was INSISTING on being regional only.

I said, "No I worked for you guys already, I know how the company is, and I can be flexable"

The thing that keeps me up now is,,, will they spite me and go out of their WAY to keep me away my home? I'll be a good boy because I can get some good run time in between now and the end of the year (4 weeks out then 4 days for Turkeyday, then 4 weeks out and home for X-mas/Newyears.) but if they insist on running me away from NY a lot in January, then I'll just ask for the minimum amount of time away and just finish a year.

I can't belive they'd want to work against me, instead of WITH me but sometimes life's like that.

On the other hand I'm still keeping a open mind, because the personell I spoke with are in recruiting/safety/orientation and not Operations. So they might not know whether or not Ops is trying to put together a NYC regional position, either.

I might not be able to post after tomorrow, we check out of the "flop house" in the morning and I don't know when I'll be able to unpack my lappy tomorrow. If I get a hot load I might have to run before I can post.

Many dedicated runs are on a 1 to 3 year contract and often see a new carrier pulling the loads when the contract is renewed

Well hmm. Maybe I just have good luck? I work for SNI. The recruiter told me it was a dedicated account, but her information wasn't totally accurate until I talked to my future DBL who informed me on exactly what was going to happen. It did, and has. What he said is what is going on to this day. Changes have taken place in the account that nobody saw coming so I can't get mad at them for that...but for the most part everything they said was accurate. And pretty much at the end of the day...I financially can't quit SNI. I make more there than I could working anywhere locally; and I don't even work 40 hours a week.

As far as new accounts, that DOES happen. I occasionally get a message on my qualcomm every two or three months regarding a new account opening up somewhere. Im on my own account and i know of two more SNI dedicated accounts that are located along my route.

You are absolutely correct. If you don't have some type of collective bargaining agreement (union), anything in writing means nothing. That goes for any current ads you see in magazines. It means NOTHING!

The real sad part is that there are so many who work under these conditions, me included. There are also those who went to work thinking they were on dedicated account only to have it switched mid-stream to otr or team driving. Not what they signed up for or were promised.

Bill's Girl. If it is CR England with Sorrento in Buffalo, it's real - not bait and switch. My husband and I both did that run for a while and made decent money with good hometime.

If it is JB Hunt, I have a friend from Buffalo who moved to Rhode Island and is on Regional Dedicated with guaranteed pay of $1000/wk and he has loved it for 2 years. I know many JB's were not happy, but there were others quite happy.

And I agree, go there (drive the 20 mis) to meet them and see if they are genuine - then ask if you can speak to 4 or 5 drivers. That will give you a better idea.

    GOOD LUCK!! :biggrin_25526:

If it is CR England and he is a newbie driver, you wont be ale to get the dedicated run for over 90 days regardless of need of drivers.

Alas 2500 miles is a poor route if you ask me. Again if it is CR england, you will get 500 miles a day. More than likely they will make sure you get to the far side away from home on the end of the 2500 and make you take a reset away from home. So in reality you will be out for 2 weeks before you get your hometime.

Your saying 2500 miles is a bad week? Sounds good for a five day work week to me.
