I bought my first def truck 3 weeks ago 2019 pete 389 Cummins x15 just curious if there's a difference in quality of def from the one in the fuel pump or the boxed blue beacon kind? Or is it all the same?

Pump is cheaper. But boxed is far better quality. Most techs say boxed will get about twice the miles from a tank of boxed def.

Never new there was a difference. I do know the pump averages $2.80 gallon.

I average about 180 miles for a gallon. And that varies. But it averages out to 180.

It takes about 1 actual minute to put 3 to 5 gallons in at the pump.

The blue stuff in the box costs A LOT more.

I'm not sure the value is there though, especially with the hassle, cause I see 1 out of 10000 guys using it.

So it last longer? Does the cheaper one at the pump do any damage to scr system? Cause at pump is 2.8 gallon box is 15 dollars for 2.5 gallons

If you buy boxed it will give your better fuel economy and you emissions system will last longer.

Pump def won't hurt you. The only benefit to buying it by the box is convenience. The quality of pump vs box is negligible.

I’ve never driven a big truck with a def system, but when I bought my Dodge at the end of 2016 all they told me was to make sure the nozzle was clean if I was getting def at the pump instead of the boxed.

We buy it in bulk and fuel when at the terminal. Much cheaper.

There is no difference in the quality of either. It's a regulated substance. 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water. I cant remember the ISO number. Pump def and box def are the same. Constantly proving the "DEF quality" wrong in the shop.

I would encourage drivers who are getting a PM done to ask for a DEF test. As this will test the concentration of the two required substances. More specifically, if you're having DEF or DPF related issues, QUALITY of def is not the issue (again, it's a myth popularized by mis-information) but POSSIBLY condensation of water within the def tank.

I say possibly because their are many devils within the DEF/DPF systems.
