I spent a couple hours in the simulator. Its pretty cool but I found it much harder than actual driving. You seem to lose your bearings quite easily since its harder to judge corners. I think it'd be a lot better with the 2 side screens at 90 degrees to the main screen, rather than the 45 or so they put them at.
i did ok with 3 screens myself. they can make the driver dizzy and or nauseous.. if so, you've got to make it known
come to think of it, I don't recall a 7 hr Defensive Driving Course including or not including a simulator. 30 minutes to an 1 hr on this side of the border.. Then again, I don't recall a 'Defensive Driving Class' as the label. They've been labeled something like ' Safety Driving Class' or 'Winter Driving Class' all of equal time spent in the classroom including a simulator with a mandate perhaps a course online would suffice if accepted by said company. does the course require you to log on duty while online?
I will be logging on duty for it. Anything job related I do on company time, not mine. Donated way too much time to companies in the past lol.
I took one of these in 2002 to have a "new driver" restriction lifted from my class 5, as required by law in NS. The class went: 1 hr movie Smoke break 1 hr movie Smoke break 1 hr movie Lunch 1 hr movie Smoke break 1 hr movie Graduation! The certificates were all done ahead of time, as there was no discussion or participation or any requirement that you stay awake through the movies and smoke breaks.
I took a course a few years back through the company we broker for and it was enjoyable. I sat in a class with 10 other doughnut eating coffee drinking machines for 4-5 hours. We brushed up our knowledge, learned some things we never thought possible and did a few crazy simulator tests. Was it to cover the companies behind? Absolutely! Was it informative and would I do it again? Most certainly!
