Yeah I know I did anyways just because the one in the truck went out. I honestly wouldn't again. To much of a hassle. I would rather just take the radio in the truck and pay to get it worked on so I wouldn't have to take it in and out.

I talked to a TMC driver once and asked him about the light that shines onto the door logos. He said he hated the light shining in his peripheral vision and disconnected it a few times but was told by the shop manager that the next time he did it he would be fired.

I just turned the bulb away from the truck and turned them back before going in the shop. If you disconnect, then just turn it back before going into shop. That was probably a threat anyway. I dont think anyone has been fired for disabling their chicken lights. Also, the chicken lights are on a separate switch. You can turn them off and drive with them off. They must be operational if DOT stops you though. Thats prob why TMC doesn't want you disconnecting them. DOT says all lights ont he truck must work even if the light isnt DOT required. This means the disconnected chicken light can give you a violation. If they bother you, just leave um off. Your Dot running lights will be fine.

    That rule has changed.

Subpart B - Lamps, reflective devices, and electrical wiring

§ 393.9Lamps operable, prohibition of obstructions of lamps and reflectors.

    (a) All lamps required by this subpart shall be capable of being operated at all times. This paragraph shall not be construed to require that any auxiliary or additional lamp be capable of operating at all times.

I guess it comes down to how you read it and how the DOT officer interprets "Auxiliary and additional". Some may take this to mean like work lights, off road lights, fog lights etc., and not running lights. Just to keep DOT off your back its easier to keep them operational and just turn umoff.
