When I ran hard it was wake up, go grab a bunch of snacks/drinks and drive 10 straight hours back in the 10 hour driving max days. Then if my fuel stop was mid drive I might drive even more and log it creatively on paper logs. Fuel stop was only timing mechanism to bust me back then and mph on drive line.
Definition of "running hard"?

“I’m in a hurry to get things done,
Oh I rush and rush, until life is no fun.
All I really got to do is live and die,
but I’m in a hurry and don’t know why.”

Rubber duck kw and gentleroger Thank this. -
Nowadays with the guberment paying the states for inspections, I don’t think anyone can go for very long without having an officer ask to look their ride over.Rubber duck kw, Coffey, Hammer166 and 3 others Thank this. -

Using time wisely, keeping the door left shut, optimizing every last minute. I have several folks that 3600 is an ok week. Sometimes as much as 4300 is a great week. Running Midwest to CA back to Midwest inside of a weeks 70 is routine.
Real deal mofos is what I call them. -
I do love listing to the stories of the “salts” I have allot of respect for the older drivers. They are classy, tough, and knowledgeable. They seem to have a fix for any conundrum one can get into. I have been assisted listening to their stories and learning from their mistakes and successes. I’d rather learn from someone else’s mistakes than making them. When y’all run into these drivers. Stop and introduce yourself and listen. -
When you think of the Armstrong steering, spring ride suspension, to truck in those days you had to actually be fairly tough. It was a tough job. Local or long haul, it didn’t matter…those rigs would beat you until your organs hurt. Either a trucker developed an extremely high pain tolerance or he got out. See a trucker, bet on him being physically tough.
So, there was really no incentive to tell toughguy stories. Now, with the majority looking, acting and behaving sidewalk sissy’ish, you will have some guy who looks as if the toughest thing that he’s done in life is wipe his arse, try to convince you that he is some sort of special forces/trained spy/master of espionage, but sticks his finger through a trigger guard when inspecting a gun. -
I guess it all depends on your perspective. Back in the day runnin hard meant running in the way you saw fit, there was no limit on miles, hours, days or time.. You ran until you were tired and you went to bed for a while then you did it again. As I got older and the laws changed running hard changed too. Nowadays running hard for me is a 550 mile day but then again I'm back at home every night. It was fun while it lasted.
I'm an iron butt member but I haven't run a 1500 mile day on the motorcycle in 15 years but I'm still a member.
If you've run hard you're more than likely a salty old driver w a few miles under your arse.
We won't see those days again.
