If you work for a company whose entire bonus structure is focused on no service failures.. And that JIT load could literally cost a driver 1500 clams.. You would understand why.

One missed appointment for a driver, he may blow it off ... who cares. But add up a dozen missed appointments for the carrier inside of a few months and it might cost them a million dollar per year account.

Trucking and truck driving is like a marriage. There must be some give and take on both sides or it’s doomed for failure at some point.

That’s fine. I’ll accept that. I’ve spent time on both sides of the big desk. You develop an entirely new attitude when dealing with business, people, workers, executives, life, etc

I too have spent time on both sides. If I had to choose between Driving and management I would choose the latter. Not because I am power hungry but because I know how it feels to be a driver. One of the main reasons management and operations seem distant at times is they have no real understanding of how it feels to be a driver. One of the very best operations managers I ever worked for was named Martha. What made her so good was her husband was a trucker. However just as management, Operations and Safety need understand the driver. Drivers need to understand them.

Done jit, never had that issue. Breakdowns, vacations, sick.... somebody was always available to deliver. Sorry its not that way for you.

JIT loads should pay more. Sticking to it. Not sorry.

The thread was really not about JIT loads but rather appointment times at various places. And some seemed to indicate appointment times were really not necessary and I was trying to say they are a necessary part of the industry and should not be disregarded .

In the entertainment industry we get drop dead delivery and pickup times routinely. And things have changed since ELD's. The customer makes a request when the truck order is placed, our management and operations people either go along or tell the customer what is and isn't possible.
When the driver is dispatched he is told the schedule, he either agrees to it and accepts the conditions or declines the load.
Mind you, if the loads aren't delivered it isn't just a matter of a $40,000 load of lettuce going bad or a load of toilet paper sitting in a trailer for an extra day. It might cause a sold out concert worth $millions in ticket sales to be cancelled, or a high profile TV broadcast not to go on the air.
They play with fire by asking for too aggressive of a schedule. And they have learned from getting burned many times. Too bad other segments of the industry aren't as smart.

In any business. Rush costs more.
Just look at overnighting mail. You pay through the nose. And you should.
The guy who gets it done, should make the extra money. It’s his stress and shortened life.
