Which leads to how do you restore a 23 ch radio ?

The FCC would require you use factory parts good trick since the factory closed 35 years ago .....

Yep got to love the goverment and how they write rules ....:biggrin_25512:

Not true as long as it was the same JEDEC part the FCC can stick it. CB shops for over 40 years fixed them with no FCC coming in to bother them and most used ECG which technically are not even a true cross. An ECG 236 was not a 2SC1307 nor was the ECG 235 a 2SC1306. The ECG parts are generic types which were tested and typed to cover a range of JEDEC numbers, but actually are 27 MHZ devices. The 1307 is a 50 MHZ device which is why they were hotter in power out given a specific drive in milliwatts at the lower 27 MHZ. Also they required interstage inductance to operate properly as opposed to say a 2166 driving a 1969.

I can go on just so long as you realize even if they could do something I for one could care less what our government has to say. They no longer follow the rule of law so why should anyone else.

They made rules just in case somebody was bothering someone so they could do something about it. Without a complaint, they obviously don't care what you do on or to a radio operated in the CB band. IMHO

And you have a JEDEC replacement for a PI-NET on a HE-20 ? or output coil for a HE-15 ? or a modulaton transformer on a Polytronics Labs polycom ?

Not a very intelligent question when there are no JEDEC numbers for those parts. I had assumed as a veteran electronics technician specializing in radio repair (which you say often) you knew what the term JEDEC means. My bad. However no such law exists to prevent me from designing, engineering, and building from the ground up any parts along those lines. The law is concerned with specifications such as ERP and spectral purity of radiated RF transmissions, not to mention whatever licensing is required. As a repair tech you either do know or you should have already known this so one can only assume mere argumentation is your true goal.

    JEDEC FYI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JEDEC

since any part used to restore a radio would have to be on the parts list I doubt you can make your own.
23 ch radios made before Sept 1976 fall under TYPE ACCEPTANCE not CERTIFICATION so you would have go under those rules ... ANY change in parts would require RE CERTIFICATION and any radio built umder thoes rules would be a problem. The FCC outlawed 23's in 1978 then quietly backed off but killed many shops this was done to protect the sellers of the new 40 ch radios ....

Thios does not apply to HAM radios or part 90 since in the case of part 90 they must meet current rules to be legal ...

Like the FCC cares ..... I don't think so ....
