Can anyone give me an idea about typical loads or routes I could be looking at? Or is there such a thing for new guys? Do you do mostly OTR when you first start? I really have no problem doing whatever they need me to, I'm just looking for info on what I could expect.
Would there be any advantage to working at TMC since I live so close, or does it really even matter?
Thanks!

not really its what ever the company needs in your area. Best thing to do is fill out an app and send it in and see what they say. worst they can say is no then you move on to another comapny. Finding a job is a numbers game the more apps you put in the better chance you get a yes. If you want to flat bed then look for companies that flat bed. TMC, maverick, mcelroy, CRST, Rohel and Swift i know they all flat bed. Also dont go with a company just casue there close to your house. Do whats best for you and your wife or gf and family. Hope this helps. If you do go to tmc let me know thats where I want to go

agreed. and id say ignore two of dawg's suggested companies completely...crst and swift are both crooks. for crst, just read 100 reviews on this site...betcha more than 95 are negative. for swift, first read this:
http://www.overdriveonline.com/class-action-cdl-suit-against-swift-continues/
there is also a class action lawsuit dealing with shortchanging drivers by using hhg miles, but this was a fairly standard practice in the industry. they SHOULD lose the lawsuit, but then so should at least 10 other companies who did the same thing. -
I've done enough research to know to stay away from Swift and CRST.
With being so close to TMC would that help with home time, or would there be some other advantage that I don't know about? Or does it not make a lick of difference?
I know next to nothing, so I'm trying to glean as much knowledge as I can from the pros.
I'm interested in TMC because they seem to be very pro-veteran. I'm almost positive I want to do flatbedding (I like being active), they have a good reputation from what I've seen. And most importantly they have some purdy trucksThe Specialist Thanks this. -
Redex Thanks this.

What about TMC if you live in Ohio? Like to hear from drivers that pass through here or live here too.
