I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't aware of dirty vs clean sine waves. But doesn't the Furman UPS i linked supposed to regulate the voltage and waves?

Looks like i need to make sure my truck has a APU.........I have a powerful and clean enough inverter........and surge protector/ups to even get started huh?

it's output is pure sine wave and that's good but you will need to check with them to see if it will work with a INPUT that is modified sine wave.... remember this was made for a house...(clean power) not a truck (dirty power) as input

I'll look into that. It seems like its possible to have a gaming desktop in a truck, but not without a mountain of headaches and power.

    I'll soldier on.

When I was riding with my husband back in 2008, I didn't have the space age games like there are out there now, but I had a laptop, HP model 2007. I had games from Real Arcade, now Gamehouse, they have a club for buying games. I ran the computer off the inverter and never had any problems, it was one he put in, I believe a 1500.

He has had problems with his mounted TV and the vibrations, shaking, and bouncing along the rough roads. So I don't know exactly how the hard drive would hold up.

A lot of companies will not even let you install an Inverter. Something to look out for when picking a company.

I have a Alienware laptop and why it did cost a pretty penny its potable so I can take it inside a T/S or whatnot. When in the truck I plug it into my 42inch LCD TV and game on that. A desktop would get destroyed by the constant vibration as you drive down a road, where my laptop sits on my nice cushy bed.

If you are serious about taking (and possibly damaging) your desktop PC, then why not get a small portable generator to power your system. Something like this would probably work nicely.

Just do yourself a favor and make sure your system isn't going to go flying forward in the event you have to make an emergency stop. You may want to build a storage box lined with foam to place it in for those trips through Michigan where there are so many pot holes that your tire hammer gets broke from all the beating.

When I get back to my truck I'll post a few things. But I do have a question for Robot. I'm getting a feeling you are just starting out in trucking at the moment don't even have your first job yet. figure that out first then your computer.

So I checked my inverter on the truck. Its a 1800w true sine inverter. http://www.amazon.com/Cooper-Bussma...&sr=1-4-catcorr&keywords=Cooper+Bussmann+1800

This one works with my computer. The Kenworth I had been borrowing was a 1800w modified sine inverter and you couldn't even plug the computer in without horrible sounds being made.

Never realized how lucky I am that my computer actually buys us good inverters for the truck.

And you're already looking at 2000 dollars for your computer. If you have to add in a true sine inverter you might be better off just to buy a top end gaming laptop at $3000 like you had been talking about.

Yeah you're right...........that $3000 dollar laptop seems to be the route to take after accounting all the costs and problems.

I'll continue this build since i don't plan on trucking till spring/summer. Heck I might not even like the lifestyle at all. Ill worry about getting that laptop after i get comfortable with the job and have bit more cash.

Thankfully I only ordered the cpu and gpu so far (parts i would have used no matter what). Looks like this thread saved me some future disappointment. Welp, back to the drawing board!
