By the way, is there a specific reason that you have the wired adapter separately? It's going to take up a PCI slot and 99% of gamer motherboards have it built in.

Same with the wireless adapter as a card in a slot. (there are wireless USB adapters at 20% of the price - example)

Just wondering because the way you have them now, you need to be careful to get a motherboard with 4 PCI slots and it's costing you $100 more.

wired I would go with one built in, wireless I prefer a pci and being able to customize antennas etc, yeah you can get USB cards to do the same but I never cared to rely on the usb ones and always got better results with a built in one in my own experiences.

Well my question is how good is the included adapter vs a separate one? Just curious. I had a motherboard on there previously that didnt have one. And I swapped to one that did and never removed it from that list.

As far as wolfy's comment, I agree. It was always my belief that a built-in part would be better than an external. Plus, saves a usb slot.

I think I may go with Intel for one reason and one reason only. Hyperthreading. Also, AMD seems to not like DDR4, and I cannot seem to find out how many PCI Express lanes it supports. It us my understanding that to run a 2-way SLI requires 40 lanes to run at 16x bandwidth.

So now that you are leaning toward the Intel build, I took a closer look at that motherboard. That is a great motherboard.

With that said, I revise slightly and would personally forgo any additional expense or slots for wired, wireless, or sound. (I know you already took out the sound, but for those who may not have read this whole thread...)

The on-board chips used on that motherboard for those three functions are top-of-the-line as is. Save $120. But that's my opinion on that and obviously it's your call. I would take $20 more from that savings and do this memory instead though. (and you have 14 USB ports by the way -12 will be accessible in that case)

At the end of the day, you'll have in the top 5% of all gaming systems on the planet built, and that's without overclocking. I am envious! And you'll be under your budget. Then I'll be hitting you up for your HeavenBench and PCMark test results (lol)

I built it around the idea of 3d Modeling, from which I understand Intel does better with cause of Hyperthreading granted I could probably get a 12 core AMD at a reasonable price and get the same results. Idk. Choosing a good processor is like shooting fish in a barrel. I could go with a cheap AMD build and if I dont like it, a little more cash to upgrade to Intel. Doesnt hurt to do so cause I could get a better opinion based on experience vs specs.

Also plan to multitask. I have an MMO I play that allows infinite accounts to be played at once, and I usually play two at on time. So want to do that while I model. My current laptop is AMD and when I do that the graphics driver crashes. Granted its 4 years old and it was a $250 walmart crapper when it was new lol. I think it might be worn out. I think I will test it, but in will probably crash lol.

    You can do this easily.

Use a motherboard that can handle the abuse such as Asus' TUF line.

If you want to go liquid cooling you can use a closed-loop system such as Corsair's H2O line. I think this is the proper choice since there won't be a massive heatsink/fan wrenching on the processor socket. I have deployed around 10 of these units since they first hit the market, all of which are still in service and haven't had a single failure.

As others have mentioned, vibration is bad and you want to combat this.

Use a solid-state drive for storage, a regular hard disk drive has moving parts that are built to fine tolerances.

Any expansion cards (likely just a video card or two) will have to be supported by some sort of bracket whether you decide to use a case with built in provisions or create your own solution. This is extremely important.

The same goes for your memory modules - try and avoid memory modules that have gigantic heatsinks attached to them.

You will also need some sort of UPS that does line conditioning such as APC's Smart-UPS line; you do not want to plug a desktop computer's power supply directly into an inverter.

Be thoughtful of cable management so you don't have stuff swingin' around inside the case causing damage due to abrasion.

You can put together a fast, reliable and durable Micro-ATX rig that would be right at home in a truck using the components I mentioned.

just to add to the conversation I ran an old dell desktop with a 10 inch lcd touch screen for years. The only thing I did with it was put some rubber washers between the hard drive and case. I had that thing running over the george washington and through chicago all of the time, I never had any issues. And gaming, at the time it was half life 2 which made the dock wait times go alot faster. I say go for it and let us know how it works out, maybe a little far cry 4 may be in my future :biggrin_25524:
