wow...
I'm NOT trying to sound like a jerk here but I have to wonder...
WHAT kind of pain meds is the OP on?
He alludes to having major pain and a condition that needs surgery.
The pain meds work to keep the pain away.. but, in his own words, he "is not high". I had family that have been on the Oxy type things, they WERE high. ALSO for LEGITIMATE back pains. My qualm is not about someone taking something to alleviate the pain. I have no problem with that. HOWEVER...
Driving a truck while on it? We were told in school that IF any of us were on such med's we would have to get a Dr. to sign off saying that the meds did NOT effect our ability to op a motor vehicle. And good luck with that, they said, being the Dr's butt would be on the line then.
I gotta shake my head at the thought of someone being on certain types of med's
behind the wheel of rolling death.
Oh the thing about being high is my family member didn't think so either.
Until they got off of em.
DESPERATE!!!

Are the pills you are on will make your urine test positive for something, ie. some strain of narcotic?? If so, then you might not be a candidate for this line of work!! No insurance is going to cover you over there or anywhere for that matter. Texas is still better than Florida, just saying!!
-
Yes, but you are still a newbie. In your very first posting, you never said you were employed for 13 years. In fact, you never mentioned what type of job you had for 13 years. Trucking is a whole different game. No issue about your back with your former employer, DOES NOT MEAN you WILL NOT HAVE ISSUES with any NEW employer, especially trucking.
I do not need to hear your statistics on back pain. Everyone has some sort of "degenerative disc" issues. Truck drivers that have back pains could have caused these pains by not PROPERLY lifting the freight, not properly climbing into and getting out of the truck, or jumping off the tail rather than climbing down. But whatever you do, DO NOT laugh (as you did) about your back pain when you compared yourself to you dad's. If left untreated, your disc can and will "blow out", or "herniate" itself so much, that it WILL press up against the spinal cord and pinch off the nerves, rendering you in a near paralyzed state.
I was able to be on my meds, and NOT have to go to the doctor to pick them up. I was on the above mentioned meds.
This is true. Arrangements CAN BE MADE to accomadate the guy.
This is what I have said earlier. He has a "pre-existing problem". The recruiter has fed him a line of BS. When he gets to orientation is when they can cut him lose. All they have to say is something like, "well, after further checking, we find that we cannot hire you based on your medical evaluation".
And yeah, the facts are what you and I (and a few others) are saying. I think the o/p was railroaded into a belief that he is in the clear.
What kind of meds?? Powerful enough to deaden back pains. I personally was on Oxycontin/Oxycodyne(sp??) and I was swallowing those meds several at a time. No amount of pain killers as strong as those gave me any relief till I had my spinal fusion operation. But I was also on medical leave as well. So driving was not an issue.GasHauler Thanks this. -
CRST isn't as bad as people say. The pay is low for the first 6 months but then it gets better. They will run you hard if you don't screw up.

Depends, I have a bulged disc causes constant pain also. Not really much of a health risk or injury risk just an annoyance. I could also have surgery done to eleviate the pain but it does not affect me enough that I am willing to sit around like a vegetable for a month. The pain is simply from a disc pushing on a nerve. Again this is from a ruptured disc not a crushed disc. I am sure I will hurt bad enough one day but surgery is not an end all.
I find just the opposite. Stretching and moving keeps my back limber and relatively pain free. Its the days following lazy days that I am in agony. Then again Tylenol and IB pretty much alleviate 90% of my pain. -
Certain meds are being limited to 30 scripts. You have scrip. You okay for drug testing. You have habit. You be at Dr office for new scrip.
Not saying that's issue here. Could be many things. -
I have family that are prescription pain med addicts this is frightening famliar. No one on narcotic pain meds should drive anything ever
my son claims he isn't high just not feeling any pain huh? -
Just because someone is on prescription pain medicine does not make you an addict.
-
No, it doesn't.
However, would you feel safe on the road with my sister? She is currently on about 25 prescriptions.
Including one for morphine, loritab, and a half dozen more I can't pronounce.
She can barely stand by herself. But she does have a valid drivers license.
