Got some exciting news to share with everyone. I was talking to Rob(terminal manager of Markham, IL), they've been getting in 2014 trucks. Looks like US Xpress is experimenting with automatics again. Its a mix of automatics & 10 speed Cascadias. We're being upgraded to a 2014 10 speed Cascadia. US Xpress still has a bunch of drivers with 2010 trucks, their trying to get all these guys into new(er) trucks.

If any of you get into an automatic....let me know how it is.

Got more info about the Automatics US Xpress is ordering. Turns out the reason was because they had a lot of older drivers requesting Automatics due to the fact that their legs hurting from shifting so much. US Xpress didn't want to lose these drivers so they've been accommodating. The plan was to buy only 50-75 Automatic trucks but apparently they've been buying more than that. All of them Freightliner Cascadias.

Those of you who want an Automatic...now is the time. They've been giving some of them to teams with 2010 trucks.

For those of you who are interested in getting on a dedicated account. Here is the name and phone number of the person you need to talk to.

    Name: Teresa
    Phone: 800.543.5033 x 4128
    Location: Springfield, OH

Make sure you ask what all of your options are. They'll sometimes push people to get on dedicated accounts that no one wants.

Some of these accounts pay more than .48 CPM, some give you more days off.

    Just wanted to update everyone.

We switched over to CEVA dedicated due to reefer being scaled back.

I'll share all the info about it when I get some downtime.

Our new truck is a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia Evolution 10 speed. 22,000 miles on it.

Sitting at the Markham, IL terminal.

We just got finished with our first week doing CEVA dedicated. So far we LOVE it !

Here are the things we love about it:

    1. We haul CEVA trailers only. They are well maintained. CEVA has guys at all their hubs constantly fixing trailers. If you go to pick up a load & you find something wrong with the trailer...let these guys know & they will fix it. No more having to take a trailer at a shop to get it fixed.

    2. No more hunting for empty's. CEVA always has empty trailers. I hated looking for an empty then to find out when I got there that the trailer needed repair or wasn't there.

    3. Loads are light. Most of our loads have been under 20,000 & never more than 30,000. It will be nice to never have to slide the tandem & scale. This lets us keep those wheels moving & making $$$.

    4. Most CEVA & their customer locations have been right off the Interstate. Most are big & easy to dock.

    5. 4,700 a week mile guarantee. This will be nice since I hear starting in December freight slows down.

    6. Most pre-assignments are at the same location you just delivered to. You rarely do empty moves. CEVA is cool about letting you stay or leave to go get food, shower, etc.

Like I said, its only been a week so hopefully it stays good as the weeks go by. Looking back, I wish we had done this during the summer time. I could easily see doing like 7,000 miles a week when the weather was nice.

There is another dedicated account we're on the waiting list. The reason being that one would pay us 50 CPM & off on the weekends.

There are a lot of dedicated accounts at US Xpress that depending on the region, can get you the miles & weekends off. Ohio area had a good one but we don't live in Ohio. Those of you who do, look into it.

Our delivery was in Des Plaines, IL at 11pm on Thanksgiving. We stopped at the Dixie Truck Stop in McLean, IL. It's the oldest truck stop in the country. Recently remodeled. They have a buffet that was shockingly good. We've had Iron Skillet buffets so we had low hopes that it would be good. If your ever in the area...I highly recommend it. I-55 Exit 145. Its a Pilot.

Is there a way to check what dedicated routes they have from Indiana ? After looking at so many companies I seem to keep coming back to US Xpress.

My plan for now is to try to get my CDL and drive solo with my wife as a passenger and then if she feels like she wants to be a driver then she will be somewhat familiar with life on the road.

Do you know solo drivers that are doing good there ?
