It doesn't matter what you pull. It's industry standard to pay detention after 2 hours from sign in if you aren't late. Some companies and places agree on 3 hours. I would be talking with your DM and make sure of the procedures. Bigger companies have their own detention dept and sometimes you can go straight to the source.
Of course there are places that refuse to pay or even greedy brokers will hide the money. But for the most part it's cut and dry. The company might bill them $85 or so an hour and when they collect, they give you your cut. Some companies might pay you a straight $10/hr while others might pay you a percentage of what they can get. I have received as much as $25 an hour before. My longest detention was 30 hours and I got $300 for it. I had some new DVD's and just stocked the truck, so I was a happy camper. -
I checked with my FM this morning and he said Swift doesn't pay flatbedders detention pay.
-
Well that ain't right. Time is money! Maybe FM stands for something other than Fleet Manager, lol.
He might be pulling a fast one on you to look better.
I know back in my warehouse days working shipping and receiving, we had a steel yard too. I had 2 hours to get the flatbedders unloaded. I use to like when the covered wagons would come in with rebar or long steel. I would take one forklift and pull the rebar/steel halfway out the back. Then I would use a 2nd lift and swing it out of there. That would make the drivers happy. I had most drivers out in less than an hour. -
I agree! It stinks! It's not the unloading, it's the loading.
-
If it makes you feel any better, the meat industry has 24 hour windows to get you loaded. They avoid detention that way. I usually work around it and still got my miles.
-
wow, that stinks even more

could someone tell me if a company pays detention pay.....who gets the pay the company you drive for or the driver......
-
In my understanding if a company pays detention pay they pay the company, then Swift will pay the driver after receiving payment.
-
but who is it intended for the driver or the company....soo confused.....my husband drive for a small company they got paid 25 an hour but only paid him 2.50 an hour......just dont understand why that is.......
