I was thinking about putting a cut/paste accessorial policy together to throw on signed rate cons when I return them. I'd like to get some opinions on this from the other side of the fence. So tell me, brokers; is this a good idea?

The pro is that it's going to flush out loads that were likely to generate detention situations but who wouldn't pay for it... the con is that it's going to create a lot of extra back and forth even on the loads where they would have treated you fairly.DSK333 Thanks this.

Pretty much what @boredsocial said. Ninety nine times out of a hundred, I can get the detention you ask for, so long as its reasonable.
DSK333 Thanks this. -
What do you consider reasonable? I feel like if it isn't in writing on the rate con, it's not going to get paid. I'm also running into places that won't sign for the in/out times too. This all has me seriously thinking about accessorial issues.

Typically, $50-$100/hr, after two hours, depending on circumstances, equipment, etc. Everything is negotiable, though. The ####edest thing is when guys don't take detention or TONU when offered.DSK333 Thanks this.

Reasonable is whatever you will settle for, if mentioned upfront.
I throw $100/hr out there (recorded line), and see where we settle at... Usually its between $50-75.
Also, I gauge the willingness to talk about detention, and if I detect some unnecessary pushback, I up my going in rate. That way, I'm covered either way.
Finally, shipper/recievers are not the only ones with a pen to note in/out times. I can also write the in/out time (if need be). Most of the time I do not, when I need to hussle to the next load. I'm on paper logs, and I do NOT wanna give the MAN a chance to nail me -- if you catch my drift...DSK333 Thanks this. -
Hence the pro of the tracking software everyone abhors for whatever reason.
You send broker arrived e mail, loaded / departed, said software easily backs your times with complete impartiality. -
I caught a speeding ticket in Ohio Monday and I was NOT speeding. He claimed 70 in a 55. NO EFFING WAY! He kept asking if my logs were ELD with location data no doubt he knew his lies would be exposed if it was an ELD. I hate them but I'm not going to lie, I wish I had one that day.

Reasonable indeed.

70 in 55 is wreck less driving. Did he cite you for that speed?DSK333 Thanks this.
