Hey guys I'm looking into buying a truck with a Detroit 60 13spd.... The motor has had no work done to it only top end set Injectors and turbo replaced at California Freightliner. The motor has about 1.5million kms on it now and the guy is asking for 18k for it.
The question is.... how long will a detroit 60 series live for before it needs an inframe mileage wise assuming it was driven fairly on average....
Thanks guys

About that long. Lol
Not enough info and to many variables to give an accurate answer.Bean Jr. and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
1.5 million km = 930k miles.
My Detroit has 1.22 million, no inframe, only rod and main bearings.
Is this a 12.7 or 14L? what year?
If you can determine the oil hasn't been changed recently get an oil sample sent off.Swine hauler Thanks this. -
I believe it's the 12.7 L..... The truck is a 2006 and the 14 litres come in 2008 to 2010..
Is the 12.7 any good?thaistick Thanks this. -
not quite, I have an 06 Freightliner with a 14L. The 14L didn't have the bullgear problems that the 12.7 did. They are good engines.
-
Wel
well this truck is a 2006 Freightliner Columbia tomorrow I will make sure about the engine size etc... Didn't think the 06 came with the 14L.
My mechanic said they are SOLID motorsthaistick Thanks this. -
According to Wikipedia the 12.7 was discontinued in 2007.
-
Exactly why I thought this 06 had a 12.7
But as for Thaistick he has a 06 with a 14L.... -
They produced 14L Series 60 prior to when EGR was mandated (so like early 2000's).
thaistick Thanks this. -
Well that cleared up a lot of confusion... Wiki says they started adding them into 2008 to 2011 trucks
