I agree 100%. When I purchased the truck I already had that in mind that It would probably would need an inframe.

I did reflect the price. I agree, on the inframe bc of opening it up it would be the smart thing to do. Would you know of a good overhaul kit for this engine? Like I said in the post this is the first detroit 60 ddec2 I've ever owned. Really don't know much about them except for what I've read. I've seen the bull gear is one of the problems this engine has if its not replaced in time

I used FP Diesel Kit.(Federal Mogul). from M&D distibuters Houston Tx. It seems pretty good. Also used a Detroit OEM head from Freightliner and Detroit reliabilt injectors. The injectors were from a 3 rd party vendor. $900 for 6. My first choice for the kit was Mahle, but they were back ordered, due to them buying Clevite, and re doing their computer system, Frontier Truck parts in Flint Mi. had the best price I could find on Mahle. About $200 more than the FP. I’ve heard Interstate Mcbee, HHP, and others are good. The only one I was told by one supplier to avoid for a Detroit Kit, was PAI. I’m not saying it’s true. I don’t know much about them. I hear good results for PAI for Cat kits on here. Just what I was told.

You should do some research. Get a quote from a Dealership. They’ll probably list all your original part#s on the estimate. I think prior to May 1998, the blocks weren’t drilled for oil squirter tubes. But I’m told you can buy new drilled rods, for wrist pin lubrication. Probably better than the squirters. You also might be able to use the newer design 16.5-1 pistons with clips for the wrist pins, instead of bolts. You probably have 15-1 pistons, There’s a lot of controversy over excessive white smoke with 15-1 pistons, especially after an inframe, for some reason. It seems to be related to the low nox programming. I don’t know what to make if it all. Some research though, and you can build it anyway you want, for the same amount of money, using a different kit/injectors/turbo than original.
