Yes, it was $2050, from Stoops Lima Ohio. My local Detroit Dealer was higher on parts across the board. Same parts. Mahle makes the OEM original pistons for Detroit. All the aftermarket kits come with rods and mains. The Detroit kits don’t. They’re extra, along with a core charge for the old ones. Supposedly they want them for research. Generally the Aftermarket kits are $2000, while Detroit kits w/ bearings are $3000. 2/3 the price, and they are good kits. The main thing I’ve heard from Mechanics is the quality or fit of some gaskets, on some kits. FP, Mahle, and others have information on their gasket technology. Head gasket being my concern. Had one blow on my 99, at 540k. Engine had never been apart. Proper cylinder height, cutting block counterbores if necessary is key. Using inserts, means cutting a lot of the block. Instead of just cutting a small amount and using thin shims, like they used to. They come in 3 or 4 thicknesses. Depending on wether they’ve but cut already. Maybe the gaskets leaking now, because they skipped the counterbores.

Ddec2, chances are the rockers and rocker arm buttons have been updated. But this I would make certain off. More than likely you have a low liner causing head gasket to leak.

That’s what I’m thinking. Mine leaked oil for at least a year, before it started pushing coolant. Once it’s got pressure in coolant, it’s a matter of time. I ran mine 1000 miles home, with the cap loose. He’s probably leaking oil down the rear passenger side of the head. 12 yrs ago, before I bought mine, it was leaking oil and coolant outside. I bought it after it was inframed. No telling how long he can run it, till it gets worse.

Your absolutely right, it is leaking oil as you explained. I have it parked and not running it bc I'm gonna have it repaired correctly.

Thing is with getting DD parts you should get all updated parts. Ddec2 is very slow limited hardware. Your only gonna get so much power out of it. Drilled rods are good advise. I run them with piston coolers.

Freightliner normally has better pricing on parts than DD.

    Truckermick and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Here’s the breakdown. Injectors are usually $2000 for a 6 pack. I didn’t do rockers, they’re $2100 reman exchange. I may do them in the future, along with a new oil pump, and cooler, accessory and power steering drives.

I wish I’d known about drilled rods. My mechanic mentioned that some have them. I thought he was mistaken. Lol.
