Doing my clutch this week, 01 Detroit/ 13 spd. Won’t know for sure , about flywheel, till it’s apart. How common is it to need replacement? As far as I know,it’s only had 1 clutch job, I have over 2 mil miles on Truck. I think I’d rather replace, rather than resurface. If resurfaced, will I need an oversized clutch brake. Rather avoid that scenario. Want it like new. Dealer says He’s never sold one. Any thoughts, info appreciated.

I bought once new flywheel because one of teeth's was bad. it was 99 series 60. I would just resurface it in your case.

The manual says yes International # 2 compound on threads. Or equivalent, never heard of that. Same as Lock tite maybe ? Also torque 55 lbs plus 60 degrees

Seams like there is a spec for minimum thickness. A good machine shop would let you know it is out of spec just like a rotor or facing a cylinder head.
There is also a way to measure the input shaft end to front bearing cover distance. If it looks worn at all replace it without even checking it.
On old trucks I often just through in a fiber spacer washer during assembly. They are easy to cut out if you decide it is not needed.

Manuel says cut .020 maximum, I got an install kit. 925-25 2050# clutch, still need rear seal and scuff cover, and motor mounts Atro silicone shot already, only 4 yrs old. Maybe from all the oil on them. Got to reseal rear cover too. Found a new flywheel near home $280. Maybe Chinese junk? Am I missing anything? Was going to change starter, mines original. Now I hear New Delco lightweights aren’t any good.

Delco sucks. Freightliner has Mitsubishi starters. Much better.

Yes I dont like the 39mt delcos either. The actual starter is ok but the seliniod dont hold up. Also cant stand the stupid extra relay they put on there also. More crap to go wrong.

Mitsubishi or denso. Japanese all the way.

I didn’t like the looks of that selinoid, or the little wire either. If I buy one, I’ll go with Mitsubishi. Is it a new style lightweight ? I Wouldn’t mind another same as original, or get mine rebuilt. It’s been smoking a few times. Jumped straight from battery, a dozen times, made a funny noise for a while after that. Then returned to normal. Lol

If the truck came factory with a 42mt I throw the small solinoid out on the 39mt and install it. Gets rid of the most failure prone componet. 39s seem to spin harder. Also lighter to put in.

google images for FL0189 starter. This is the replacement for 39MT starter of DD15. The one that goes on series 60 looks similar.
