This was on the wall of the building where all the trucks would wait for a dock. Another driver from my company showed up I asked him about that. He said he stayed over night there once. I told him he was crazy. Detroit hands down is the worse shape and looking city. Broken down building boarded up burned houses it's like a 3rd world country. I couldn't believe that it's a city in America looking like that. I ask anyone to go through during the day and take a look and you'll see for yourself. Even the inner city has building shut down and glass windows broken and graffiti everywhere. It's somthing only your eyes will believe once you experience it for yourself.

^^^ True that. It would make a GREAT setting for an apocalyptic movie.

Ran out of hours at the sam's on 8mile once. Didn't get much sleep that night. Left the back doors open as I had just MTed out there so anyone interested would know it wasn't worth the time. But stll it was an uncomfortable night. If it happened again Id just drive out and tell dispatch to suck it on the log violation.

Glad you made in and out of there. It isn't hard to find where you went to, sorry I wasn't on line for much of the week because I had to deal with 14 hour days.
Dequindre isn't just off the freeway and you have to watch wayne county commercial vehicle enforcement. Dequindre is accessible from a few ways.
The best place to layover if YOU don't get booted out is at Meiers northwest of there on Mound and 12 mile road across from GM tech center or at the walmart at 12 and van dyke. If you are south, I would just head out to the walmart on Ford road off of the Southfield freeway, just in sight of Ford World HQ.
You could stop over at the Meiers on 8 Mile and Woodward but you may find out that the security people/Detroit cops have a sense of humor waiting for you to be there in the middle of your reset and wake you up to tell you move or get towed.
Someone mentioned the sams club on 8 between Lasher and Telegraph, DO not leave your doors open, you may find yourself having a trailer torched. It is Southfield by the way, a city with an increasing crime problem thanks to Detroit chasing all the bad guys out. -
As as funny as this is. It isn't far off the truth. I felt the exact same way as if I was actually par taking in one. Almost brought a year to my eye.
To to the other poster I made sure I stayed 2 hours away before going in at night. I can get closer now knowing there are truck stops on the outer edge. I will NEVER stay in Detroit inner city or side stop in my life. Your playing with your life I feel if you do. -
Mods, feel free to delete this minor hijack...
I was born and raised in Detroit (South Detroit, actually. Cue up the Journey tune) and it makes me sad to see the city just continue to circle the bowl. Detroit was once a beautiful gem of a city, with a thriving downtown along with a great cultural, educational, and arts scene. Even today, you can see that it once had beautiful architecture and just huge amounts of industry. Twice in the early mid 60's, it finished in the top three to host the Olympics. All that has been gone probably 30 years, as corporations got more greedy and unions got more corrupt, Detroit bore the brunt of their failure. It used to be a place where a kid could graduate high school and walk into a job that put him solidly in the middle class for life. Average factory workers could afford to have multiple cars, a boat and sometimes a lake cottage. All that died, and I have to question is there really any way to save Detroit. I hope so, because it was once a truly world class city. -
That's okay. The thread's about Detroit, and you're from there. So, not to worry.
BobcatVolvo Thanks this.
