    Hello,

I would appreciate any feedback on a detroit ddec 2. I got it in a 93 pete and am it need an inframe. I don't have much experience with the detroit, would really appreciate if anyone with experience on these motors could suggest me if it is wise to spend money on getting an inframe done as the truck is in great shape otherwise and i'm not too keen for a newer ones with all their problems.

    Thanks again,

In frame it. I would make sure to use Genuine Detroit Diesel parts, yeh they cost more but are far superior that after market knock offs. Or, consider having Detroit Diesel inframe the truck for you. They have different levels to choose from, they are experienced and give warranty.

Thanks for your reply. Would you be able to shed any light with regards to the fuel mileage of the ddec 2 and what maximum hp they can go to? I will be using Genuine Detroit parts only.

    Thanks you

Not sure if you have an 11.1 or 12.7. You can also look into a DDEC 3 or 4 conversion for more horsepower options. Not sure what you can get from a stock DDEC 2, I know the 11.1 can go up to 425-450 with stock everything.

Detroit should be able to upgrade the cam and ecm to a ddecIII they have to put a special cal in the ecm to read engine timing because ddecII and III have different gear count. And as posted stay with genuine detroit parts! After a it has been rebuilt there is plenty of options to make more power and increase fuel economy. The bull gear should be inspected or replaced as well.

thanks freightlinerman and rebel127, it's 12.7 so i guess 450 should be achievable. i was looking into pittsburgh power and bully dog but they got nothing for ddec 2. I hope to get good fuel economy atleast when it's up and running. Thanks for your input guys. much appreciated

Pittsburgh Power does not support DDEC II if I recall. You can do an after market tune, not from Detroit Diesel, but from side guys for around $400.00 bucks.

Any idea what kind of a fuel economy i should be expecting? With 22.5 tires, 13 speed OD tranny and 3.70 rear ratio. I cruise around 60 mph.

7 mpg or better should be easy to obtain at 60 mph or below with your setup.
