detroit vs cummins??

i had better luck with the detroit then the cummins.
too many things can go wrong with the cummins. and it usually does.
with an 03 though, you might have better luck. no egr or lousy turbo. and hopefully no front plate that constantly warp and leak.
and the detroit averaged upper 6's mpg while the cummins was mid 5's, only thing cummins had going was a little more power.buddyvuk Thanks this. -

Here are the things to consider. Both are good engines. I've had both. The ISX is good up until the new ultra low sulfer fuel law. Thier fuel mileage dropped and Kenworth is having a hell of a time with thier burner. Of coarse thats a way newer truck. It is allmost 4 times the cost to inframe the ISX vs. the Detroit. I own 2 trucks both identical with exception of the engines. The ISX truck is strictly a backup now due to the drop in fuel milage and the expense of up keep. The Detroit is a 500 HP w/ the chrome intake kit The ISX is the same HP but gets 1.8 miles less per gallon than the detroit. Hope this helps.
