By restricting trucks to certain lanes you will see an INCREASE in the NUMBER of accidents invovling trucks. Why you are going to ask simple Idiot 4 wheelers like yourself and others will be doing what I called the SUICIDE DIVE crossing in front of us in an effort to make your exit. The driver of that truck is going thru a personal hell right now I had a close friend that had a fatal and he NEVER drove again for the simple reason he was like that could have been my family that hit me.

Remember this next time you cut off a trucker they have families also and would like to see them again too. When we get in a fatal accident it affects us more than you realize we become a statistic and also realize that we have taken anothers life and begin to second guess everything we ever do behind the wheel. I myself was tanken off the road by a four wheeler I was rear ended by a woman not paying attention and she rear ended me when I was on hometime in my POV 3 weeks later I devolped Epilepsy from the head injury she gave me. Try waking up every morning and not knowing wheter or not you are going to mae it thru the day without falling down and shaking like a fish out of water or forgetting you are working with hot oil and sticking your hands into it. THAT IS WHAT I LIVE WITH EVERYDAY and BTW I had over 1 million accident and incident free miles when that happened to me. I had my livelyhood taken from me and my career ended because someone forgot to pay attention. Now I am forced to live off SSDI instead of being able to support my family.

I lived in the St Louis area for 5 years. Before you blame the truckers, perhaps you should look at the driving habits of the other drivers in that area. I've seen some of the worst driving I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing and in the majority of the times, it isn't the trucker who's doing the bad driving.

I'd suggest you learn about trucking before you start putting out a blanket "blame" as you just did. Yes, there are some real "winners" behind the wheel in some big rigs, but the majority of the idiots I've seen on the road aren't the truck drivers.

EVERYONE needs to "keep distance", and you don't have to be a trucker to know that it's difficult to do in high traffic areas. As a four-wheeler, I know that if I allow five or six car lengths in front of me on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76 into Philadelphia), someone will slip in that space. And if I drop back? Yep -- you got it! I'll have yet another vehicle jumping in there.

You can't always blame the driver who rear-ends another vehicle. Sometimes it's impossible to allow safe stopping distance in traffic.

Ducks, That is definitely the truth! I can't count the number of times that when I fall back to allow a safe following distance, some 4 wheeler cuts right in front of me. And, of course, all of us drivers just love the suicide exit drivers. They just feel COMPELLED to wait til the last minute, then exit 4 feet in front of our bumpers, cutting across 2 or 3 lanes during their suicide manuever!

And, I've even had truckers do the same to me--the suicide manuever. Drive aware, and drive safely, EVERYBODY.

Sorry dude, but in every case where a truck rear-ends another vehicle, there are two reasons which can be directly attributed to the driver of the truck:

    1. following too closely
    2. driving too fast for conditions.
There is no such thing as an "accident".

Sorry, no matter what you say/think......MOST "drivers" (of big trucks) will allow for weather and/or road conditions...we will leave enough distance for "stopping in time", so to speak, yet there is ALWAYS some stupid four-wheeler who will cut in and take up that space, just to SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES, right there, 4 feet from our front bumper!!!

The TRUCK driver wasn't following too closely, NOR driving too fast, at 15 MPH, but the stupid four-wheeler who cut us off, who is a potential "accident waiting to happen"!!!

So, of COURSE, there is "no such thing as an accident", when it comes to BAD DRIVERS.....MOST of 'em are NOT truck drivers!!!

    Everyone KNOWS, FOUR-WHEELERS don't have ACCIDENTS....they simply CAUSE them...IMHO.
SOMETIMES, it really IS the fault of the "driver"(semi)....MOST times, it is not....

To those who have lost loved ones in crashes with semi's, I'm sorry for your loss.

Right! Keep safe distance. Just watch how, if a trucker leaves enough space, someone will swerve in front of him and slam on the brakes. I rarely drive during the heavy traffic hrs. What if the driver swerved to avoid something in his lane? We don't have all the facts and did not witness the accident, therefore cannot pass judgement. My advice tor drivers is to get a camera that records the last 30 minutes.

Want to make sure I not angry sounding, just sounding. I've seen thousands of incidents out there and so many accidents I can't remember. The one that shook me the worst was a wheel came off big truck W of Tuscon and killed 2 motorcycle drivers. A State trooper was at the scene within 1 min. and I remember the look on his face watching one guy die. There was nothing he could do to save that boys life. After 1.7 million miles you become jaded I guess but never hardend to death by stupidity. The innocent are the worst ones to take. They never leave you.

Where in your quote did it say the truckers were at fault for the accidents? If you hit a bigger object, you're more likely to die. Pretty simple, even for a PETA. Not to mention the fact that trucks put on so many more miles than cars. Let me see, I think the normal for a four-wheeler is 12000 miles/year. A big truck can do that in just over a month. If you sit in the driver's seat for a few weeks and still blame trucks for the accidents, I might value your opinion.

I should also mention I live on a farm and we slaughter cattle weekly. Our deep freeze in the basement is full of the beef, the rest went to market.
