    I get it now, duh!

    Anyhow, I gave up my cdl (the state has suspended it) because I can't legally drive for two reasons. One is the treatment for my injuries, which includes heavy pain med prescriptions, they don't trust me - boo boo. But the other is the injury screwed up my diet which when I was in the hospital they kept giving me everything that was off diet, so I asked to go on insulin until I get it under control which has not been going well because of the internal healing I've been going through.

    Glad your a1c is at 5.2, mine before the accident was 6 and after it was 11.

    I'm wondering if you were taking synthriod for the thyroid problem. I've heard this from one of the nurses who had the same thing, she got so sick that she ended up in the hospital with kidney failure and it was because of the adverse event caused by the metformin.

    Yes, I have type 1, insulin dependent, so I had to get an diabetes exemption. Here's the link:

    Diabetes Exemption Application

    It explains everything you have to do. It's a royal PITA and it takes 6 months for it to get approved the first time. It renews every two years and the renewal is much simpler.

    @TROOPER to TRUCKER
    Do you have a Federal Diabetes Exemption or something else? I only go to the DMV to turn it in with my medical card whenever it renews. Other than that the DMV isn't really part of the process at all.

    Yeah my dr makes me come in every 90 days for labs. It’s just a process now. Go today for my last lab results and check up today.

    The medical card itself is for 1 year though, correct?

    Anyone with type 2 diabetes should watch Dr. John Bergman's youtube video on diabetes.
