I suggested tarping them and then strapping them together but he said 1: tarp wont keep them from falling off and 2: he doesnt have enough straps.

I used to work for a flatbed company doing orientation securement training's well as logs and the other essentials you get. Are you going to be 100% comfortable on your own after training? Absolutely not. I still call my flatbed friends and bounce ideas off Swift's safety flatbed folks from time to time. A good training program will teach you how to think about load securement, not just a how to guide for every load. Keep in touch with your mentor, make flatbed friends, and learn who in the office has pulled a flat before- we do have several and they are valuable when you're just having a tough moment figuring something out.

Truckerswife-I'm sure I stumbled back in here too late to be of any help, but the pallet advice, or (I prefer) v-boards around all sides including front and back of the load, strapped and then crosstied front and rear would keep the load stable. TMC should be able to procure more straps- generally check with either the driver manager or the road breakdown department. Dame with lumber needed for v-boards or dunnage. I wouldn't tarp drums at all (unless a strange shipper request), and definitely not straps over tarp- all you're doing is hiding where the securement needs to go and damaging the tarps in this instance.

I would of gone with Vee boards for sure. I also work for TMC and I can tell yuo all you have to do is call in to your FM and they will get you a PO number for a comcheck to cash to get the supplies to make some nice Vee boards.

Sorry haven't posted in a while. I have mostly been in and out of Phoenix lately. Currently i am in tucson at the DSW yard. I am hauling 5 coils at a time 2 trips a day down in tucson local, then heading up to phoenix to help out local up their around the 7th. I'll get some pictures in of the 5 coils.
I picked up a load last friday in scottsdale ,arizona out of the guys driveway!!! he rented a 40ft ocean container, and a crane i backed a 53ft step deck in the guys driveway, talk about a tight squeeze!!! and i dragged it down to Fontana on Sunday. T-called it their.
I grabbed 2 coils out of fontana brought them to tucson and now working out of tucson locally for the week.

Here is a load of pipe i brought from Denver to Phoenix last week. I started taking the straps off of the front before i remebered to take a photo.
This was the first time i had to use snow chains i ran down the 70 to the 191,163,160,89 I-40,I-17 into Phoenix. That is one of my favorite routes a real scenic drive.
On a sidenote i really do not see what the big deal about putting on snow chains, what i did learn is doubles suck, i replaced them all in phoenix with singles!! now i have 8 chains and am good for every states chain requirement I believe

Heres the I-70 at night with the chain requirement. I think i was doing probably 20mph tops but I am glad i chained up and went because they closed the tunnels right after.
