When I went through training it was 8 weeks with a trainer. I begged my trainer and she signed me off at 6 weeks. It takes a good 5-6 weeks until you feel comfortable leaving the nest if everything goes smoothly. 3 weeks is kind of premature and is about the time a trainer can trust you enough to sleep while you drive. It passes by quick and there is no sense rushing things. The more one on one you can get the better off you will be. Then again it all depends on the trainer and the program. There are many bad ones out there today just for the money and a bad attitude or they are not even seasoned themselves. I guess if they team you after 3 weeks you can lean on each other. I'd be kind of leary putting my life in the hands of another newby. Many of trainers have died in the sleeper. I didn't mean to scare you! :)

Teaming is on all miles. Your cut should be 15 cpm on 5000.

    Rollin87 and mje Thank this.

Beats the hell out of getting thrown to the wolves dont it? At least if you have to team wih a trainer for anoher 40k miles youll get the training you need for most situations. Could always be worse too could have a chicken trucker for a trainer.

Rollin87, mje and TRKRSHONEY Thank this.

Good Lord, some of you guys make driving a truck like learning how to fly a 747. I couldn't wait to get off my trainer's truck after only 9 days. That was 4 years ago and I have logged over a half million accident and moving violation free miles. Truck driving isn't rocket science.

8 weeks for 40k miles = 5000 miles per week.

Is that team miles, or your own miles?

    mje Thanks this.

    Yup.

My mentor had the habit of telling me to turn the wheel in the opposite direction.
Then he'd yell at me for doing what he said.
    LOL.

And it was lot's of laughs, since I finally learned that he got left and right mixed up.

Never had a day under a trainer, ask questions and listened to other drivers, paper work is the only thing that takes some time to learn. I only have about 220k miles and i have been lucky no one has ever hit me.

    mje Thanks this.
