I use to run Wally’s 2 stroke oil until I had the aftermarket DPF installed to comply with CARB and the shop told me not to use it anymore. Something about it may cause to plug the DPF more frequent. Otherwise I would of stuck with the 2 stroke.MartinFromBC, Rideandrepair, bigguns and 1 other person Thank this.

I used to use Howe’s, It’s supposedly unique, in that it encapsulates water and burns it, or something like that, if you read the bottle. Anything that cleans fuel or gets rid of water is good. When I use any additive. It usually pays for itself. But I rarely do. Winter time, pffp, for water. Basically expensive either. Howe’s or power service, if I catch it on sale. I usually go against conventional advise. Running my tanks pretty low,in winter time I use additives for possible water and fill up. When coming from the south, usually add at least 50 % treated fuel, I’m good, unless it’s real cold. I’m sure I’m wrong, but I like to get rid of old fuel. Had an algae problem once. I keep an eye on inside of tanks for black coating. If so, treat it right away, and keep extra filters on hand, you’ll need them.

Silliest thing I ever heard. As others said, a properly pre filled filter is the correct installation method. Especially if your filling with a cleaner or additive. Kind of hard to put that in with a primer pump. The correct method, in case some one needs to know is to fill threw the small holes on the outside of the filter, not threw the center big hole. You will notice how slow it fills, because its FILTERING the fluid.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Good luck on making sure 100% of it goes down the outside holes. Many manufactures do not recommend prefilling the fuel filters on modern engines. Hell look at the side of an actual OEM filter and I bet many say not to pre-fill it.
Do you know the tolerances inside a fuel pump? A couple microns. The smallest particle the human eye can see is 40 microns. Its the crap you can't see that is going to cause the problems.
As for adding additives, what's wrong with throwing it in the tank?Last edited: Jul 13, 2019
Diesel Dave, uncleal13, magoo68 and 2 others Thank this. -
You might be Ok prefilling on a CAT or an old N14 without issues..........but
@AModelCat is spot on , on this. You cant see the dirt. Any commonrail engine today if you prefill your inducing unfiltered particles, however small and minor.Diesel Dave, AModelCat and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
Mack fuel filters on my trucks say make sure to not prefill before installation.
AModelCat Thanks this. -

To answer the original question, I occasionally add half a bottle of Howes when it's warm. It absorbs any water that may be in the tanks and carries it to the filter where it settles and then is removed at filter change.
I do it every couple of months when I think of it.MartinFromBC Thanks this.
