Abilene does have cameras, activated during incidents. Schnieder is installing outward facing cameras in all there new trucks. The cameras never bothered me at Abilene, I got used to the idea after a few weeks, and I wasn't doing anything wrong in the cab, so no worries.

You aren't doing anything wrong, so no worries. That's what the people say about the patriot act and government spying on it's citizens. I know Abilene is private company and not a government entity, but that ol "I'm not doing anything wrong" line just rubs me the wrong way.
You may be ok with it, but why not mention it when recommending them? I can tell you I don't have any recent desires to buy my own truck, but if and when that becomes the norm, I will instantly become an O/O.
My biggest problem is that it's just not an accident, it's activated over bumps, activated hitting the brakes when a 4 wheeler cuts in front of you, activated when switching lanes, going around corners, going through bumpy truck stops, anytime the cab rocks it's going to set an event. You have to watch the camera, because every time it goes off the company can hear your personal phone, cb, or in my case personal conversations with my wife as we team.
I know, because the local company I drove for over 14 years was one of the first companies to install camera's 4-5 years ago. When you walked into work that week, there was always a list of 10-15 guys that had to go see safety about what was seen on camera. Your seat belt wasn't on right, you went around that corner to fast, check your mirrors, blah blah blah.
If I was going to say something that I wanted confidential, I always had to slow down, make sure traffic was not going to be an issue and watch for bumps before I said it.
I know it's their company and their rules. Fine. It just doesn't work for me.
All I'm saying is mention that fact when recommending Abilene. I would be pissed to go to orientation, and THEN finding out they have cameras. -
so when did this start at sni?

Don't want to hijack this guys thread about cameras, so this will be my final post about cameras, but the "lane departure" cameras installed in the new Schneider trucks are dash cams. On two different occasions I had hard braking events while on the intermodal account, both times I was called and asked for an explanation, both times they said " okay that corresponds with what the camera captured."Cledus Snow Thanks this.

All new tractors at SNI with a build date 3/31/16 and later will be equipped with an outward facing dash cam. Only records when a critical event is initiated. There is no inward camera and the don't record any sound. All the information is in the latest extra mile that just came out.

That's how it all starts next they will say they are putting in cab cameras for training purposes not long after that they will develop a points system and start punishing drivers for stupid stuff. Been there done that and will not go through that again
-
Is someone forcing you too?
-
Nope not yet but one day it will be just like electronic logs I figure
-
I wasn't trying to start a debate on whether they are good or bad. Someone asked a question about them and I gave them the information. Your opinion on them really isn't relevant. Like all the people who told me they would never, under any circumstances drive on elogs, I guess they are all retiring now.
SNI stated they are against inward facing cameras, they tested them and decided against them. -
I was simply explaining how it happened at a previous company I worked at. Apparently you and me have a failure to communicate. ..good day sir
