I've seen quite a mix of mechanics of all types in different type shop environments. Once they gain some age and years of experience most are honest and trustworthy. The way I see it, their managers often tie their hands and prevent them from doing a great job and a job they'd be proud of. Some will still buck the management off and prove they are working for you. This is the guy your looking for. Everyone respects what he does, no questions asked, seek him out wherever you trade.

The mechanic repeatedly hears "just do as your told" I'll make the decisions, by the service writer, but when the service writer goes "air head" it's the mechanics fault for following his orders.

I could literally write a book about all of the trials and tribulations I had with this dealership. It took a stern conversation with another member on this site to get me to finally ditch my relationship there - if you could call it that.
The grease on the steering wheel and seat and steps was a constant after each RO, even though I had words with the service writer. He told me he had tried to get only his BEST guys on my work. Well if these are their BEST guys... ?! -
Anyone can get a job at a stealer as a mechanic as long as yer certified you good to go leaving grease all over you truck just disrespectfull so much for pride need to be smacked on the back of the head and 250 to go back and do it right that's cutting you a deal should have done it for free and detailed your truck just for the inconvenients not the mechanics fault he can only do what's writen on the work order

We've had the "Slime Dog" syndrome as well. A guy works on a Skanky job in a Skanky bay then draws a job with the requirements of "Mr Clean". Why would someone have a guy that's been wresting pigs get inside someones truck is beyond me! It's just inviting trouble! Is this just another example of piss poor judgement of the management? Oh no! It's all the mechanics fault isn't it! Of coarse it is!

Always the mechanics fault

But sometimes it is there are some dirty guys out there just got to use your brain for something other then a hat rack

We have guys we call "HOG" because they like to woller in it. That's OK, they can stay on "grunt work" all day long and get dummer by the minute!

Bottom line, no one should pick up a vehicle in a lesser condition than it was received unless caused by uncontrollable environmental conditions of nature. There is no excuse for trashing a customers vehicle, period.

KW had a ummm...(politically correct word..) CALORIC CHALLENGED individual that would slide his over-sized ginormous arse out my driver seat and snapped the Atlas 80 Elite switches twice.
My seats kept loosing air and I found cracked switches. I then took a look at the mechanics on 2nd shift and quickly made a determination.
KW, while admitting it was a possibility still fought me on that too.

I now have ISRI seats and the air switches are inboard facing on both sides. One less thing to deal with...
