LMAO....reminds me of an incident a couple months ago in Memphis.

Clown standing outside his car with about 5 or 6 other clowns. Trying to push his car out of a "puddle". The water was up to the mirror on the drivers door. the car was tilted at about a 45 degree angle in this "little puddle" of water.

    Some folks never learn.

Cover your own butt first, You should have made sure the damage was handled when you turned in the truck, even if the other driver caused it.

I would not deal with it, I would fire the team.

I don't mean to be unkind here, but . . . You've both lied twice about the damage. What do you owe the other driver? Your job? Your reputation? If you had volunteered the information that he did it, then I can see someone calling you a rat. Hey, no matter what you say someone's going to have a problem with it. What's worse: lying (which, at the very least, may be a violation of company policy) and worrying that you'll be found out and fired, or telling the simple I-get-to-sleep-at-night truth? They already know--they just don't know if it was you or your partner; you've put your job on the line for the other guy. They also know that damage doesn't just magically happen. Trying to put it on other drivers sucks--guys who do that are rats (ever picked up damaged equipment and the driver who last used it says he didn't know?). Guys who tell the truth aren't rats.

    What GasHauler said.

Okay, you asked, "So what would you do?" I wouldn't throw my job away because another guy wouldn't man up. Good luck.

Wow I cant believe this. Your next pre trip showed what? or the driver who did this , his pre trip showed what? In other words what was the damage?
Circumstances dont always let you drive around a pot hole , ( i grew up in Pgh Pa and I know potholes) and you only hope you are hitting a slight pothole. Like a deer, or dog, you better not swerve at all or into traffic. I am new but whats wrong with, stopping after you hit the pothole , calling it in, and have the company sue the state road or what ever for the damage? I tell you I have had 1 experience so far at an orientation for a major trucking co., and I am becoming unimpressed with the companies. The company I am talking about has just lost a suit about incorrectly reporting something in Dac. Forgive me for what I am about to say, but many of you drivers are cow towing to the companies instead of doing what is right and standing by it.
Things are not always what they seem......

Your a team, you were both in the truck, and you both lied to cover it up. You both are responsible for any damage. Shouldn't be that bad if you are splitting the costs. If this is how your partner is going to handle things though I would quickly be looking for someone who was more trustworthy and responsible. I couldn't imagine what he says behind your back!

I run a team truck and if my co-driver would have hit a pothole bad enough to damage to the truck and wake me up you can bet I would have been out of the bunk trying to find out what in the heck just happened! When your boss asked you the first time you should have said something. Put into the perspective of if it was your equipment you would want someone to step up to the plate and take responsibility for the damage. Also, after your boss looked at your logs and saw that you two were the ones in the truck I would have definitely said something. Now do you not only look like you were trying to help cover something up you also look like a lier. I dont know about your boss but if you were my employee I would fire you for the principle of covering up and lying. Sometimes it's better to be a rat than labeled a lier and losing your job for someone you owe nothing to.

Yes but you knew what happened, yet did not say anything about it when your boss asked. Because of that your boss will look at it like you were lying and covering up the accident for your codriver. Even though in your perspective you weren't lying you have to look at it from your bosses perspective.
