Spread axles rule.

is it a size and weight violation>?? or a kingpin violations?????
to me, oversize and overweight.
the title of the thread says dimension. how does a van get a dimension ticket???? he's not oversized. LOL -
53' trailers are illegal in California unless the KCRA is 40' or less. The ticket you get isn't for illegal inner bridge -- its for overlength.

Not so much 'anymore' but rather, 'at least not for now.' They are working out how to handle size/weight violations in CSA, but it's doesn't seem to a priority. (I spent an hour researching this for a friend a few months ago.)
It always amazes me that KPA length and bridge law are used interchangeably. I'd bet this comes from the fact that the KPA restrictions affect your inner bridge, but they are totally unrelated. As pointed out, one is to limit bridge loading, the other to control turn radius.
And I don't have the energy to go back and point out all the incorrect information given out in here. Makes one think that reading comprehension is a lost art!

About 35 years ago, I got stopped @ the Santa Nella scale on I-5 in CA and got a bridge ticket for not meeting the necessary overall Federal Bridge Requirements. I was hauling bulk hay cubes behind a 3 axle Pete cab-over w/a 40' open top walking floor. Cop showed me his weights: 12,000 even on the steer; 34,000 even on the drives; and 34,000 even on the trailer. He said it was the first time he ever saw a perfectly loaded truck like that. Since I had loaded myself w/ a skip loader, I was real proud of myself until he said: "Too bad you don't have the bridge for over 73,280!" If I remember right, he said I needed at least 51'6" center to center on axles 1-5 in order to legal 80,000# and I wasn't even close. He did let me go to the old 76 @ Gustine (couple miles) to wait for my customer to come over from Morgan Hill w/ a little truck to take the overage. It didn't take long to figure out its lots easier to pump those loads off w/ a walking floor than to shovel them.

How much is the ticket?
-
I've gotten that ticket already, around $200 :/

Here's the cheat sheets for figuring out maximum kingpin settings. I always consult this before scaling a heavy load, setting the tandems either to maximum allowed length if I'm restricted.
