I’m on the fence on this idea. I’ve seen a few successes with more negative responses, but I’m unfamiliar with the dump truck world. If it’s just for poops and giggles - Class A - and temp agency while you’re on dry land, to learn more before going further.
Ok i only read the comments on the fo3rst page, but here is my two cents so far. With the amount of time at home you have. This CAN be done and (making assumptions here) for someone in your position it isnt a bad idea. I dont no anything about RI, im north of Boston. Ive also never drove dump trucks. I had a cousin who very well with a dumo truck during the bug dig. That said if yo3y have a class a (cdl) you also might want to consider containers. Being in RI your centrally located between jersey and northern new england. So you could even use a day cab. As far as teuck sitting. I wouldn't worry to much about that. I take dec, jan, feb, off and i dont even think about my truvk diting that time. I bring the batteties home when i park. Put them in the cellar, about a week before i go back out. I put them on the charger, set it trickle charge.
Can you tell me more about that? What would that look like—drive when I want? What does the money look like for containers? Do they take them off my trailer when I deliver, or do I have to keep track of where my trailer is? I appreciate you!
This is exactly how I determined that, although I would like to become an owner operator, I did not want to do it in my current situation. I would not be able to earn the daily revenue figure I would have to earn in order to have enough margin to feel comfortable.
