Never understood why someone would factor. I’ve never factored a invoice ever, never will. And I run 95% spot market.
Daycabinit, m16ty, Opendeckin and 5 others Thank this. -
Most guys preach how you have to have so much money in the bank before you ever buy a truck. Truth be told they bought the truck and run their business on their last dime.
Without a factoring company, they would be bankrupt before the checks came in.
Some a better drivers than business men.Rideandrepair, PSM379, Speed_Drums and 2 others Thank this. -
I have 40k in my persoanl bank and another 30k in my business account and I still factor. Running credit on brokers, invoicing, accounts receivable, and the fact that brokers are less likely to stiff a large factoring company is why I still use a factoring company.
Daycabinit, GreenPete359 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Wes, I wish you luck. Keep in mind though that more than a couple of good brokers here (I know, hard to say) have repeatedly said that the best way to learn how to broker is to go to work for one. I'd love it if my wife wanted to give it a shot working for a brokerage to learn the ropes but it's not her thing. If it was maybe we could have something some day.
Knock on wood, I've never factored and never been stiffed by a broker. I run 100% spot and try to keep a revolving 30k in my main account.Rideandrepair and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
You're missing the point. You can't find direct customers for your trucking company, and as a broker, you'll need to find those same direct customers, AND, carriers to haul the freight. So with the brokerage you'll be trying to do something that you claim you can't currently do, times 2.Rideandrepair, Speed_Drums, wichris and 4 others Thank this.

Majority of shippers don't want to work with a o/o with one truck. As a brokerage youre able to post loads on loadboard. This having access to a lot of trucks. Giving you the opportunity to land contracts with shippers.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Yeah about that ... they don't want to be stuck with freight on the dock waiting for a truck and many of my contracted customers do not want their loads brokered out to an unknown truck, it defeats the purpose of having a contract.
So we have to make sure their loads are covered by us, either one group or another within the company gets it covered because of the contract.
By the way, don't know where you are at, so maybe putting in your profile would help guide you.
Just saying.D.Tibbitt, 86scotty and Rideandrepair Thank this.
