Directional blinkers

    originally, it was a marker light. (only) Then for safety, some do-good congressman somewhere said, "lets make it a combo marker AND turn signal light". Which actually was a very good idea. I've seen, but not recently, very large turn signals mounted at about 45 degrees facing the rear, which cannot be seen by the driver.

    Middle trailer blinkers were only required to be put on 53’ trailers or longer. They were not required for 48” or shorter. The only side lights that need to be seen from the cab mirrors are the red rear side marker light and the abs warning light. This is so you now the exact location of the tail and length even sitting straight. Turn signals only need to be facing to be seen from side and rear.
