It's another tool. No different than using the atlas or GPS. This site is a great resource full of experienced truckers. I think the better question is: "Why would you not ask?"
While I'm on the subject, anyone know how to get from Virginia to California?
Directions?

I still can’t believe I drove all those years with out a GPS(still don’t have one) or a cellphone and no ELD!
Always got to where I needed to be.GreenPete359, Coffey, Numb and 3 others Thank this. -
Factory Colony LN, and Cincinnati, Oh?
Make a picture on you Atlas with address I gave you.
And don't forget calling texting dispatch, shipping , receiving is PROHIBITED BY YOUR RULES -
Why do people make it sound like it’s so hard to actually call the place you’re going to and talk to a human being? The place I’m delivering to this afternoon always gets complaints from other guys about how they’re not ready and they have to wait for them to set up to unload. Every time I’ve gone there I will call when I’m 2 hours out and when I roll in everything is set up and ready. All I have to do is open my hoppers and unload.
Call the shipper or receiver. Write down the directions they give you, pay attention to the street signs. It’s not that difficult.GreenPete359, mustang190, Numb and 3 others Thank this. -
NYC, Chicago, Pittsburgh,
Trust me blindly follow directions from a person who drives regular car does not work there -
The only reason I wouldn’t ask on here is because everyone has a different view. Personally I love small roads, spent a lot of years running the PNW on mostly skinny roads in the mountains. If someone asks here about highway 12 in Idaho then my opinion of that road from having run it multiple times a week for almost 10 years will be quite different than someone who drove it once and ran out of hours along the river somewhere because they didn’t know that the 240 miles would take them 5 hours.GreenPete359, TokyoJoe and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
