Little tidbit of information that could be useful, doesn't mean they wouldn't "find" another reason to send me packing.
There are several federal laws that provide important protections for veterans with disabilities who are looking for jobs or are already in the workplace. Two of those laws -- Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) - protect veterans from employment discrimination. Title I of the ADA, which is enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), prohibits private and state and local government employers with 15 or more employees from discriminating against individuals on the basis of disability.[3] USERRA has requirements for reemploying veterans with and without service-connected disabilities and is enforced by the U. S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
This guide describes how the ADA applies to recruiting, hiring, and accommodating veterans with disabilities, and briefly explains how protections for veterans with disabilities differ under USERRA and the ADA. The guide also provides information on laws and regulations that employers may find helpful if they want to make recruiting and hiring veterans with disabilities a priority.

What I recommend you might want to do is make a copy of your 214 and redact your reason for separation. Show your Honorable status and only show the redacted copy of the 214.
Rendrag Thanks this. -

Rendrag and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Bottom line is they will find a reason other than your disability to reject you.
Be safe.Rendrag Thanks this. -
Another option would be to not even bother applying for the VA program and then I wouldn't need to send them my DD214. Right? Thoughts? But I really need a job where I can clear 600 a week after tax and insurance. I just need someone to give me a chance. I'm sure I can find someone, but I want to flat bed and TMC seems like a newbs best option.
Thanks again for all the replies. Didn't expect that.KriegHund Thanks this. -
You shouldn't have any problem making that with TMC.
Can clear $600 a week with many companies if TMC doesn't work out. Linehaul drivers make more than that with companies such as Old Dominion, Estes, Saia, etc. -
There was even a post here about that very thing a few months back if I remember correctly.
Bottom line is that if his back is messed up, it could be anything that makes it worse, including riding in these air ride seats that like to bounce you around on rough roads.
unloaderRendrag Thanks this. -
If you were myself, what would you try to get into if you insisted that this was definitely going to be your career choice. Would you run tankers, flats, van or reefer? And what start company would you try to go with?
Addmitidally, my heart is set on flat bedding, but if the consensus is A would be better than B I would certainly consider it.
On a side note, even when I initially started having pain in my back I would still sit in an International for 10+ hr a day (for 15 months)with heavy gear. And at times be dismounted carrying all of my gear, a m249, and halo jamming device (heavy ### back pack). No issues, still did the job, and did It well. And even deployed again. -
I know you asked unloader, but I'll give my input also:
Abilene Motor Express - van/reefer
Magnum Ltd. - reefer
Old Dominion - van/doubles/linehaul
Tankers :
Superior-Carriers
Tidewater Transit
CTL Transportation
SVTN
Girton Propane
McKenzie Tank Lines
A&R Logistics
Trimac Transportation
I'd go with tankers as a first choice and you will need:
hazmat/tanker endorsement
passport or passport card
TWIC ID Card
Good friend of mine ruined his back while in the Army. His special forces team would be inserted by helicopter, then have to carry their gear until picked up again. All he's able to do now is fish and play online poker.
Anyway, submit lots of applications and then pick the best offer that appeals to you.Last edited: Jun 2, 2016
