When doing some power only runs i have pulled a few trailers with disc brakes. I could definately feel them grab better. The only negative i can see is the lifetime costs vs drums is quite a bit higher. And that only comes into play if you plan on keeping it 10 years or more.Tug Toy Thanks this.

Cost for new calipers $795.00 complete assembly with brake pads.
I don't see the cost too much higher.
I like the less maintenance.MartinFromBC, Dave_in_AZ and KB3MMX Thank this. -
We pickup new trailers with disc brakes occasionally. Usually tankers and specialty trailers, but vans and reefers are getting more common. I have a 2000 model tractor with drums. The disc brakes apply a little more quickly, but we are pulling them empty. If the trailer were loaded i don't see any real issues. I am betting the trailer is doing more of the braking with discs. Hard to balance 10 wheel ends exactly.

How about rotors? Pads and rotors are the main wear points. Not calipers.

Prices in attachment.
$75 caliper rebuild kit
$208 Rotor
$238 pads, 4 pieces 2 each axle end.MartinFromBC and KB3MMX Thank this. -
So you got both sides of the axle. New rotors pads and calipers for 700 bucks? Something aight right with that quote. I can't even get generic ones from auto zone for my old f150 for that price.

$700 was price for complete caliper with pads.
