To each his own ...lol
I'am in the process of stretching a truck .. I did just the opposite.. when I was searching for a cut off I made sure I got drum brakes .. I've heard to many horror stories about disk brakes -
Ding ding ding ding ding! I'm not really sure why anyone would think about it any further than that right there. ^^^^
Oh, of course there's the longevity reason too. My tractor has discs. I bought pads (before I pulled wheels) about a year or two ago and went ahead and put new pads on since I had all the wheels off (about $200 for all pads). The old ones were fine. Probably had half life left. Truck was well over 500k. And that's all I've ever done to these brakes......period. One set of pads I didn't even need.
Currently waiting on new trailer with discs. -
I can understand that. I do my own maintenance, so I'm not too concernedLast Call Thanks this.

The truck i have now has disk brakes. I was sold on them from the first time i slammed the brakes while bobtailing home from the dealer and nearly went out the windshield. My trailer still has drum, but just the truck having disk has helped my stopping a lot. I love them.
baha Thanks this. -
I do too and its just stories I hear .. its the caliper stories that made me back away.. and the fact I'am a cheap F'er.. the cut offs were cheaper with drum brakes ..lol
I'am probably gonna wish I went disk brakes but it's to late now it's been hot glued together now .. -
I've seen many caliper failures, but % wise I'm sure it's low. Probably 1/2 of those caliper failures were from lack of maintenance.1
-
Now your making me feel bad ...lol
-
Would you want drum brakes on your car? Disc are far superior all around- Except parts cost. Calipers and rotors are expensive. But the more there are, the more prices will come down as aftermarket options become available. The maintenance is cheaper, when you only need pads. But when you abuse and ignore them, is when it gets expensive.......fast.
Diesel Dave, 86scotty, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this.
