My company first got tractors with disc and trailers had drums and never had problems. Now we are all disc brakes I would not go back to drums. No slack adjustment to worry about.

I’ve driven every mix, every which way, the last 8yrs. No worries, no matter which way you go. Engineers have done a great job making everything play nice.

My current tractor is all disc and I wouldn’t buy one any other way. The only negative is the brake dust and rust that blows out of the holes on the steers. It sucks trying to keep the front wheels polished and the holes clean.

My vote would be disc on the rear axles and drum on the front

My last tractor had discs on the steer axle and drums on the drives.
My current tractor has discs all the way around.
Some of our trailers have discs, and some of them have drums.

I've never had a problem with any of these combinations as long as all the brakes are adjusted properly.

Northern Nomad, Siinman, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.

    Disc truck drum trailer.

The trailer has arms that keep the slacks adjusted. And the adjustment is tight.

Best braking power I've ever had. The Jake is also BAD A **.

The drums are also new on the trailer. Not worn out warped pos's.

    Siinman Thanks this.

I'm headed to pick up a disc brake trailer tomorrow. Can't wait. Upgrading my Dane dry van from a 14 to a 22.

Former truck had all discs. Current one has front disc/rear drums. I hate it. Going back in time is no fun to me.

Disc brakes will spoil you. I can't imagine any reason anyone who has had them would want to go back.

Diesel Dave, Siinman and Oxbow Thank this.

Can’t say much about the performance while driving but being in the repair business I can’t think of to many guys that haven’t wanted a drum setup back after a complete disc brake rebuild.

    Siinman and Oxbow Thank this.
