To clarify a dispatcher, (dm, dl, whatever...) is supposed to relay the load from the planner, (load engineer .... whatever) to the driver. That was more of a chore back in the day when dispatches were given over a pay phone at a truck stop: no cell phone or Qualcom. Now days, a dispatcher is nothing but a firewall between the decisions makers in the company and the workers. A #### job my way of thinking.

That said I always assumed that the job started out with a salary in the low 30Ks. At least that is what a few drivers at Swift got paid when they made the jump from driver to dispatcher. One night guy that was still very young but had lots of dispatch experience started off around 15hr and was up to 38K before he took a day position. That working 40 hours a week and nothing more. Not too bad for the night shift.

He had no college degree. I don't see where that job would need a college degree any more than a used car salesman. Not much skill or knowledge needed, just the ability to BS. So many have college degrees now and cannot find jobs, let alone jobs in the fields they trained for. A trucking company has no problem setting a 'college degree' as a requirement to thin out job applicants.
