Hi Guys...
I need your help. I am opening my own dispatch service... however I have questions.... I am currently working for a small company that has a total of three trucks. I need to get some more independent trucks... however... Do I need to have my own MCM #?? or does each independent driver already have that??? also how about insurance?? doesn't each trucker have to have their own insurance?? when I find a load, and I do the set up... do I do in under whatever trucker is going to do the load??? or do I have to open my own and do the set up package under my company? Please help....
Thanks
Izi

It sounds like you are talking about a dispatch service and not a broker. I'm no expert but if that were so then you would be getting the load under the truck's authority. Legally you can't double broker a load.
Pardon me for saying it, but I don't know why anyone would pay for a service like this. Part of what makes a small business competitive is the fact that it doesn't have to support an office and office personnel.
We already have everybody we meet with their hand out and the brokers take their share and usually a little more, so I can't see letting go of another slice of the pie and part of the control.
Now with all that said, I'll share what some I have spoken with offer. They find the loads. They furnish their own subscriptions to the load boards. They do billing and follow up collections. They do all the paperwork necessary to book a load.
The trucks will have their own insurance but I can't imagine operating any business without a business liability policy. You need to do lots of research. There are at least three people on here doing this. Do a site search for "dispatch service" and contact them for advice.
Good luck.123456 Thanks this. -
To add to what BigJohn said if you are here asking those questions you dont have the knowledge or experience to provide dispatch services to O/O. Give yourself some time dispatching for the company you are working for then look into it. Someone with your experience and knowledge trying to dispatch for a company and O/O's at the same time is a accident waiting to happen. Mix up a load or two and someone dont get paid you'll be out of a job and a mad O/O will be looking for you. In this Business experience and time is the key
