if you work for werner on elogs you will always be legal. this is true of all elog companies I would think
It is at Trans Am my buddy was called to the yard because he ran over his seventy by 15 min and had to do a reset before they would send him out again
you make more money on paper only if you are a creative writer
last 8 months were 4 on paper 4 on elogs 3 biggest checks were on elogs
just requires a different mindset to trip planning
ie have 2 or 3 truckstops lined up within your drive time
i trip plan all day if i stop here what will that do to tommorow
I might not be the smartest guy here but i can trip plan and manage my hours
one reset in 10 weeks aint bad drove every single day last 3 weeks every check over $1000

There are other carriers where it's a "wink and a nod" arrangement, where you go into safety and pretend you messed up, and they'll pretend to discipline you for it.

Always remember its YOUR CDL. Even if they wanted to fire you for whatever reason, you can still keep your CDL. Try hauling hazmat without the the credentials and get caught.. lol. I had a headlight bulb go out, they told me to drive to a truckstop and buy a bulb (middle of the night) and replace it myself. I made them send me directions on the qualcom, so if I get pulled over and get a fix it ticket, i'll hand it to them and say here ya go!

Here is my advice - take it for what it is... Run it legal, as the consequences for getting caught running illegal are very harsh. It is much better for you to 'fess up to running past your 11 hrs than it is to start messing with the equipment and get busted for falsifying your log! I have had 2 occasions where I went over on my drive time, and both times I had valid reasons that were well documented in the log.
As far as taking a load that you know up front that you can not do it legally, just say no! It's just not worth it.

I agree with some of the advice given here. I would not advise messing with elog equipment if you work for a company that has those. Unless you are just getting your otr time or you don't want to run hard and are fine with "that" driving style I would chose a smaller company. As you get your driving experience which is very important you will also start to see grey areas in the system. No matter what, drive safe. If you are tired sleep. Period! Never pull a load you are not supposed to. However, even though the "super trucker" days are over and you learn creative logging you can bail a load out of trouble every once in a while and yes probably get prefered treatment. DOT is getting smarter but they still don't know all the tricks. I say do it by the book. Once you have some time under your belt you will know what you can or want to do then it's your choice, but please, please, be safe. Don't drive tired even if it's 2 hours after your break, take a nap. It's happened to all drivers. But even after running straight through your legal driving time sometimes you can't sleep and could keep driving safely. All of this will come in time. Do only what you feel comfortable with, driving and on paper. Do not feel bad about being a by the book driver if thats what you are or want to be, we are all different.

These days it's not as simple as just disconnecting the fuse. The system reads the truck's computer so it knows the truck moved from when it was disconnected.
