the best dispatchers I ever had , Charlie and he was a driver who was asked to come into the office to dispatch , very efficent and no trucks crossed paths from other terminals in our operating area unless they didn't have a product at another terminal and where doing a transfer or delivery to our customer till we got product , when he retired it went to heck , they hired one of them logistic coordinators from college , this distick could get lost in her office she was so stupid , we lost so much money with cross routing ( I have a load that delivered to western pa and the driver from NJ had a load going to western ohio same product and ammount ) that the company closed up opps and hired schnider , funny thing is she got a job there 3 months later..the companys loss we told management about her screw ups but they didn't listen and after problems with contaminated loads they tried to call some of us back . no thanks ..
    .
and my dispatcher Scotty , great guy ,my first rule with him was you lie to them your gone and he never passed the buck ( he was a driver but gave it up ) , was doing great till the leasor ( which we shared offices with ) started to get into my business and screwing us over and finally he quit , I tried to keep him but he had enough of the guys crap of changing our loads after we set the board up , when I broke the lease it wasn't long they went under , he was a easy to get along with guy and never had problems with drivers , as he asked them how and where you like to run and keep them on the routes and when some newer drivers complained , he told them senority has privledges , but some guys had dedicated customers from the customer requests , I had a low turnover rate ,but trying to find drivers started to be a problem .. I had 2 trucks thatwhere cursed any driver I put in there would quit after 60 days , and it wasn't the pay or dispatch it was the driver didn't want to work . and complained he wasn't making money ...

With all the new rules coming out...e-logs...CSA2010.....i think one other rule that needs to be passed.....
In order to become a dispatcher, you have to be a driver first. Make it a hiring prerequisite(spelling?). Maybe then dispatchers would understand what the drivers go through and have to deal with.

Most dispatchers I've known share a common hearing problem.

    You say..... You are dispatch.

    They hear.... You are GOD.

A question. How does a person who workes as a DM for a mega carrier like crengland with upwards of 130 trucks they are responsable for, probley 100 of wich are new unskilled and mostly lost drivers, be a good dm. With that ageanst them is it even possable for them to really be a great DM?

I am a L/O with crengland. I think its hard to be a good dm working for this company personally. Had 1.5 good dms out of about 6 or so. 1st good one was a military robot, he was awsum. Never talked, qcom just barked a quick order load ets and let me do my thing. This guy never spoke or talked on qcom just gave me high mile loads and ran the snot out of me. I gave him 110% a 110% of the time, never spoke or qcomed him. Occasionally he barked a quick half sentence order to me on qcom but that was it, always happy to do whatever he asked, even though I dont have to. Got promoted to company fleet :( Got a guy tries reall hard smart, but still defiantly learning, and lacking in a lot of areas. Likes to send out 2 page messages on the qucom about nothing, really not up to par, but he is polite and whenever I ask something which is almost never he always seems his best to get me what I ask for. Not real good runs, not making very much but not starving eather. Will do my best to ride it out with him.

I love my dispatchers, they've kept me rolling over 3k/wk in miles!...I haven't had a problem yet and the longest I've waited for my next load was a few hours and that was only once...Not always crazy about the loads but I take the good with the bad and when I want hometime they have bent over backwards to get me there, last time with a load to my hometown 10m from home, couldn't have asked for more!!!
