A few years ago I had a good relationship with a woman agent for a very large brokerage/carrier. One thing led to another and she asked if I would be interested in letting her find me loads. She had one guy that just dropped out so I did. She finds loads for 5 independent truckers. She charged a flat rate of $100 per week. She ended up working for another brokerage firm as management so couldn't do it anymore.

She definitely earned her money. I don't see any way you could handle 10 to 15 drivers! There will be times that 3 or 4 need a load now. There's no way you could handle them.

Your $35 per load fee is very reasonable though!

You may be right Skate-Board, I had thought a little more about that this evening, 10 may be to many, because to do a good job, you have to call numerous loads and negotiate for a fair rate for each driver. And not just the calling, but a lot of searching also. Thanks for your insight.

I'm not trying to downplay your idea. I like it. I have questions and doubts but I think everyone should. I haven't said that you couldn't do this. You want opinions? You need to think this out? Well I'm the donkey I stated you have a good idea, just needs a little more thought. That doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

    jn1427 Thanks this.

Forget about a fax machine or fax service. Not needed anymore. Everyone does email.

As far as your pricing goes I think you can get some guys. There are guys out there that love the freedom of being independent but hate the paper work/dispatch part. Chances are they aren't getting any better rates then you will get for them, so I say for what you're charging you can find a decent income, but will it be worth it for that amount of money? You also got to take into consideration when those guys take time off. That decreases your income as well. Anyways good luck and merry Christmas!

When you get a sec jn1427 pm your info. I think that you have a good idea and think that we may have enough common ground to see if we can work together. I have one truck that I'm trying to get on the road and out of the yard.

    Some math to think about...
    35/2000= 1.75%
    35/1000= 3.5%
    35/500= 14.29%

I don't recall reading what type of freight you have experience with? The second I sense I have more information than you do is the same second I pay less or you depart with more money than you should.

In your model, the I/O will forego the $25 or $50 a wack (most likely unaware of the loss) while your $35 commission remains constant.

I don't believe sales people can sell anything just because they have sales experience.
