No, I don’t have any services to sell! I am thinking about getting into it though which is why I am on these threads.

That is also something I am considering. Since I am coming from the driving side, dispatching seems like an easier transition. Working with shippers to secure freight seems more outside my wheelhouse than working as a service for a trucking company. The start up costs are also higher for brokering so I would have to be sure I would want to go that direction before committing.

I think we have to agree to disagree, but I appreciate your perspective. As I said in the other thread, the prime benefit is freeing time to be used in other ways that can grow the business. Many people can dispatch, it is not rocket science in the end. Only an owner though can work and have the vision to grow his business the way he would like. That is where the owner's time is best spent, in my opinion. Also, having somebody on your team who is 100% focused on dispatch should theoretically pay for itself at the end of the day if they are any good.

Letting someone else dispatch your truck is taking away control from the most important aspect of finding revenue and assuring efficiency of your running. In my opinion, it takes away all the fun too.
Even if I had multiple trucks, and I could not dispatch them all by myself, I would still want to hire a full time dispatcher than a dispatch service.

You are attacking me for making a very valid point. You seem to have a vendetta against dispatchers in general which is fine. All your points only make sense if you hire a BAD dispatcher. They come in all shapes and forms you know. A good one provides VALUE, otherwise, what's the point? If they were all just taking a cut for doing nothing, these services obviously wouldn't exist, but in fact they are prevalent.

At the end of the day, it is a SERVICE for Motor Carriers. If you don't like the service, don't hire the service. If they are not doing a good job, terminate the agreement. Trucking companies that reach a certain size will need dispatchers eventually. You can hire W2 employees or you can work with 1099 independent contractors. There are pros and cons to both. The 1099 route saves more money (a.k.a. Independent Freight Dispatcher).

Anyway, all that being said, your points are making me think to take a more serious look at brokering. Peace.

It is definitely a personal preference. It would involve a high degree of trust to work with a dispatch service and feel good about it I imagine.

Of course I read both threads but I seem to be seeing the point of view mostly of O/Os running with just one truck. Of course it doesn’t make sense to use a IFD in that case, but the point I was trying to bring up in both threads is when you are growing your business and have more trucks, at some point you will need help with dispatching, whether that be an employee or independent contractor. That is my point with time savings, finding one bad load for one truck might not take a lot of time, but finding good loads for multiple trucks takes more time than you seem to be implying. That doesn’t factor in other back office services.

I brought up that point because I didn’t see that point addressed in either thread. I thought it was fair to add and was curious the response I would get. Attacking was too strong a word to use, but you are clearly very biased in your opinion to the point of assuming things about me based on very little information. Because I brought up a valid point about allowing the owner to focus on growing the business rather than getting stuck in the day to day of dispatching? That is a very good reason to hire a dispatcher for an owner with that mindset. But apparently this means I don’t know anything about the industry? Okay.

I am not offering any services and I am not selling anything just to be clear. I am considering my options. I am the type of person that if I can’t do something and provide real value, it’s not worth doing. I have no desire to take anybody’s hard earned money unless I know I am am truly helping them with a problem and am a blessing to their business.
