I'll throw another scenario at you:
Driving through Donners Pass is a choice. Driving through Donners Pass in georgia overdrive is another choice. Rear ending the stopped traffic at the bottom of the pass is a mistake, but that mistake could have easily been avoided if you made better choices.
See where I'm getting at?

I would also state that of your examples, drinking and driving is definitely a choice, but it is is still definitely a mistake, as would be running from the scene. I do not believe in excuses; to me that is when someone tries to pin the blame on something when it as their fault. But admitting you made a mistake doesn't deny one's own culpability; in fact, it is owning up to it.
Please do not take my response as a personal attack. I am more than willing to agree to disagree, and in the end I think we are both on the same page as far as personal responsibility, if not terminology.Last edited: Jan 5, 2015

Rear-ending the traffic would be an accident caused by mistakes you had made in judgement on how to approach or if it was from not paying attention to your surroundings. Not packing enough food due to ignorance of weather conditions and having to.eat your party members in Donner's Pass would also be a tragic mistake.
I guess what I am saying is mistakes can be conscious choices, just choices made using poor judgement Or not enough information.
Or actually a better way to put it would be: not all choices are mistake, but many times bad choices turn out to be.Last edited: Jan 5, 2015

Hello Borgg;
Forget the semantics of accident or choice etc. The past is past, now you have to deal with the present. Prime is a good company with an excellent training program. Because of your past you may not be accepted by Prime - not the end of the world - there are other companies and therefore opportunities to prove yourself. Stay on course, (drug free) and get clarification directly with Prime. Then based upon that you will know what your next step is. Pay attention to what Chinatown says - much wisdom with him.
Kind regards

As others have said, call the recruiter and ask directly, or call another companies recruiter and ask them, most companies are similar, not identical, but it may give you a better sense of where you stand.
As for mistakes of the past, yes mistakes, conscious choices that were that in hindsight were detrimental are mistakes, crap happens. We are a sum of our lives experiences, and there holier than though truckers that have never made a poor choice blah blah blah, are full of blah blah blah. Don't sweat them.
I drove early on at 17 in Europe, in the Army, drove back in the States, got a DUI at 24, so I ha to take a number of years away from the Industry. In retrospect, it was a good thing I did because I had a lot of the Rock and Roll Lifestyle I had to get out of my system.
I got it all out and came back and here I am today loving life. Don't sweat the things you did in the past, just deal with the ramifications that may linger, and understand that if the time is not right now, in a couple of years it will be. Keep focused on today and tomorrow and don't dwell on the past. Own it though, because it is yours, and it has helped mold you into who you are today.
Give me a reformed drug/alcohol/womanizing/sex and drugs and rock and roll person who is living right over a holy rolling bible thumper who has no life experience beyond church socials and hearsay every time. They are more real.born&raisedintheusa, hal380, jeff18 and 2 others Thank this. -
I love semantics! On that declaration I can easily submit the following: It is impossible to drive through Donner (please note the singular/non-possessive), personally I drive OVER Donner Summit on a regular basis!
As to the topic at hand....Prime will be checking your employment and DRIVER history. I have talked with other Prime drivers....they have this thing about HONESTY....just keep your fingers crossed and expect to be "randomly" checked on a more than random basis should they opt to take you on!
Good Luck!born&raisedintheusa and jeff18 Thank this. -
Ah, but you drive OVER Donner Summit, while driving THROUGH Donner Pass

Here is what is asked on Primes site:
"Have you ever tested positive, or refused to test on a pre-employment drug or alcohol test by an employer to whom you applied, but did not obtain safety-sensitive transportation work covered by DOT agency drug and alcohol testing rules in past three years, or have you ever tested positive or refused to test on any DOT-mandated drug or alcohol test?"
I'd say you answered the question correctly but I'd call the recruiter and explain your situation. Best of luck and keep you ### clean if you want to drive a truckborn&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
Don't call recruiter call there safety department.
