The practice of feeling a new driver out by low paychecks also destroys faith in a company that promises so much but doesn't deliver.

 

Not sure about all D M drivers, but they offer $1000 weekly minimum on Ga. ads.
Gross,or net?I see the add constantly. What do most guys average?

You won't be turning a lot of miles for the first couple of weeks. This is mainly because the company is just filling you out. If you prove yourself to them, do your job, make your deliveries on time, and not bother your D.M. with pointless phone calls you will be rewarded nicely. Basically, show them that you can handle the job and they will develop some trust in you and give you more miles and better runs. I now have a dedicated run.

Honestly, the first couple of weeks there, I only brought home after taxes and health insurance, an average of $450. However, I am now bringing home nearly double. So, the money isn't bad once you prove yourself.

 

I have been looking all over the Internet at many trucking companies to apply to once I finish driver training. Bowman was one I was really looking at for several reasons with one being that I am real close to one of their terminals. Figuring that this would make it a little easier for getting home time.

Anyway, I would think that new drivers would potentially call in more just to be clear on everything and ensure that they are doing things right. Getting shunned by your DM, dispatcher, etc for asking questions seems really ridiculous to me.

Gotta say, my head is spinning because it seems like their are many complaints about most companies. I guess it is just the nature of the industry and you have to go for the one that has the most benefits for your specific needs and you have to make some sacrifices, like slip seating, lower pay, etc. Again, everyone is a little different.

I averaged about $720 take home, after taxes, insurance, etc. 2400 - 3200 miles per week, NO consistency in miles, NO incentive to work hard.

 

While at DMB my manager actually said to me that DMB had alienated (his word) so many drivers that they couldn't find new hires in the counties where they had their home terminals. When I left I interviewed with another trucking company where the HR manager had known an executive at DMB and he told this story. He said that he had found himself needing a job and called the DMB exec asking for help getting hired at DMB. The exec told him "You don't want to work here!"....I have to say that of all of the trucking and non trucking companies I have worked for this was the absolute worst. I have seen a lot of drivers complain about their jobs, but I guar-on-tee you that I can beat any horror story about abuse with my own about this company...What really caused me to quit and made me realize how I was being taken advantage of was what I read in an article in a magazine while waiting for an appointment - the article was "Is your boss a psychopath?" After I read this I realized it was the Bowman culture e-x-a-c-t-l-y...and described exactly most of the people who ran the place with a only couple of exceptions
