I have spent hours reading the posts and deciding if OTR is what I want to do. I definetly am going for OTR if possible.
I have had a DUI Misd. 1982, Pos of Marj less than 2g Misd. Last accident 2 yrs 3 mo ago careless ticket dissmissed.
I have a CDL class B /P Endor from Bus Driving. Was fingerprinted and background checks ran. Current state has no knowledge of bad DMV from a different state. Should I omit from application or spill the beans? I also had a workers comp claim 2 years ago from a office job. From the Bus job I would get good references. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Should I run my own background checks first and if so where?

Get a copy from your state DMV to be sure what is on it.
Some companies will do a criminal background on you too.
Hopefully you are off the weed and booze for good, don't need that on the road. -
should be no problem with the 80's DUI..they usually only look back as far as 10years. The only problem I see is the accident in the past. They want to know everything up to 3years so whatever the charge was make sure you tell the truth or they can send you home before you even get a truck. Hell Ive heard of some drivers making out on the road and getting routed back to be fired for lying.
EDIT: You can get A free report here http://www.hireright.com/Consumers-Applicants.aspx -
How does he get a free report,
with no cdl history ???????????Wargames Thanks this. -
tell them about the accident. If they find it and you didn't tell, they may disqualify you for dishonesty.

All you do is ask..you get one free a year

Actually the accident was 3years 3 months, no tickets or accidents since. Have a class B CDL, Florida or DMV nationwide shows no DUI. I guess since it is so old it won't hurt to tell the truth. Any recomendations on who to start working for that may pay for training?

The pot possession is going to be your biggest hurdle. You need to be truthful with everything on your app because they will find out. May not be today or tomorrow but they will find out. Trust me, its only to YOUR advantage in doing so. Most of these mega-carriers have their own private investigators and their only job is to do background checks.
First and foremost you need to call around to a few companies and talk to their recruiters. Make sure your record is kosher with them before you go any further. A school recruiter may not be as truthful with you as a company will.
