Bad backers may get hired if they're rookies. Bad backers who choose not to become good backers will probably lose their jobs.

Nobody is great at backing while in school unless they've had experience in some way. Plead, beg, cajole your teachers how you can get extra backing time, it couldn't hurt to ask. Just don't give up, challenge yourself & go over the process in your mind every evening before you go to sleep. I don't know why your school is asking for a hole in one anyway, my CDL school gave us 3 pullups to pass.

Here's a backing video, lots more on youtube if you search.

It's crazy to think that most of us were there at one time in your shoes. Worried about how tight the shipper dock will be then. Once you pick up the next 1000 miles you can't stop thinking about." I hope the reciever docks is easy to access"

Today after years of driving I enjoy shifting and reversing into tight places more than driving forward on a great day lol. That's what it is all about. And driving local stepdeck all over the bay area in the morning really puts you up to a test.

I pull in sometimes when I see that the truck next to me is a reefer and his tractor is idling in 65 degree weather with his a/c on and has a loose fan belt that cycles every 2 minutes.

Why does that make me a moron?

Sometimes you park front first as you call it,to protect your hood from getting crunched from bad backers. Or you don't want to hear the refer running next to you..

From the looks of it he may have been going for the shade provided by the truck next to him, or as stated - avoiding a reefer, APU, or weed burner.

Don't worry, I used to think the same.

You often park in truck stops full of men that are lonely. I'm sure they would like you to be a good backer.
