Let’s put it like this. If a cop is low on his quota for the month then he’s going to find any excuse to write a ticket. Depends on what cop, where you are, and how you treat him when he stops you.

Honestly I’d rather just leave the cruise on 55 and have everyone pass me and never have to stress about getting pulled over for speeding.

I rarely go over 61 and have never gotten a ticket here, but you might drive here all of the time hammer down and never get stopped. I know drivers that have gotten ticks for 57 in a 55. It all depends on the mood of the cops at any given time

The worst places to get tickets are just across state lines like I-80 in from Reno, I-40 at Needles, and I-5 coming in from Oregon. There is almost always a CHP parked in those places catching drivers that don't want to slow down from the higher speed limits in the state they just left.

Cali is no different than any other state. You can go fast as you want...... the question is... “Do you feel lucky, ...... well..... Do ya” ?

That's a ridiculous question... you can drive at whatever speed you want to, just know that you're doing it at risk of getting a ticket. I hear people say "the cops allow 3 m.p.h. over" or " 5 m.p.h. over, but in truth, they have legal rights to ticket you for 1 m.p.h. over. You might be able to dispute it in traffic court and get it dropped, but it's still considered speeding. Everyone has their own limit in their mind on what they think they can get away with, and most do. The law is the law and is supposed to be absolute. Why don't speed limit signs say:
    SPEED
    LIMIT
    ABOUT
    55
    GIVE
    OR
    TAKE?

I've gotten two types of tickets in Cali. A speeding 10 miles over and a driving in the wrong lane. The fines are real and the fines hurt. Truckers are free money in Cali, better than tax money. When I got busted on 99 for driving in the wrong lane, it was a sting. There were a bunch of trucks pulled over within one mile. Each cop had a passenger with a camera. They were insuring that we couldn't fight the ticket. REVENUE GENERATION WAS THE NUMBER ONE REASON for this NONSENSE. Anybody that thinks tickets are for safety are F.O.S. 80 mph in some places, 55 in others, so UNIVERSAL.

If the weather is good and the traffic isn't heavy you can usually run 60 and never be bothered by CHP.
    Usually.
Don't be changing lanes a lot, don't tailgate, don't do anything that makes you stand out.

I drove for years out there doing 0-4.9 mph over the truck speed limit and NEVER worried about cops. I wouldn't exceed 5.0 mph over the limit. None of the trucks speeding past you are going to pay the ticket, share the points, etc.
